Grr.. my download isn't working. It keeps having an error towards the end of extraction..either bad burn or bad .iso. Gonna download a new version and burn one at the same time. Ill try again later.
-
Btw rumours say that win7 will get released in 2010, is that true ?
-
likely.. you see all the recent Vista commercials pushing a dying product
Im downloading the 7000 version and will give that a go.
-
Thinking if i should change to 64bit Vista or just wait for the Win7. Although i doubt im gonna see any difference
(from the 32bit version i have now)
-
im installing the windows 7 now..
-
id go vista 64 bit and dual boot with win 7
-
good luck on the install give us info please
some people cant do it ....(me)
-
The only "plus" i see from Vista 64bit is that they use 4gb ram (which atm i never managed to get passed 2.5gb of usage on 32bit).
Not to mention a few programs wont work cause ill need to get the 64bit versions -
yea true but you can still say you have it but fine try staying with 32 bit and windows 7 i mean who doesnt want to use a os that isnt due till...next year
any way theres really no point to windows 7 i have read so far people said it actually lowered the fps .. and the driver support wasnt good
any one tell how good the boot times are? -
30 seconds for me to boot to log in.
From log in to use application seems faster.
Windows 7 pwn Vista.
I am using Windows 7 beta, and it's usable. It's a bit slower due to drivers not perfect, and little bugs, but it uses less ram and less hard drive activity.
Some people say the taskbar is not good, but you can change the options there, and it's better than vista now. I didn't like the default.
New UAC is nice.
The new options on how to hide icon on the right of taskbar is nice.
The taskbar grouping is super nice, with small previews on the whole group.
New USB safe unplug is better, but could improve more.
The index search seems faster.
The rotating background is very very very nice. Only rotate at log in or you ask to do so by right click. The should implement unlimited background by download some in background. Then we NEVER have to be get bored with 1 background.
It can't be worse than Vista, because it's a Vista with like SP3. -
srry then lol well i would love to do it then but i ant since i have a 400mb limit send me a cd!!! no dsl for like 60 miles
-
There might be a work around or something. -
In my opinion, Microsoft should not charge customer for upgrade from vista to windows 7.
If they don't charge it this time, I think it will improve their brand name reputation big time, it should be worth it, because it's only for the vista users, and vista users should not/will not pay for this "SP3" anyways.
And more people would love MS and windows 7. -
agree'd i love any thing free ....lol
-
guys I hate to act like moral police but win7 screenshots should not be published on forums like this. Also please use them confidently until public release. I am using x64 release from day one and it works great on m15x better than any other windows
-
yea u got a point but on moral ground not good but t]his is a forum for learning ? i for one would love to learn more knowing i shouldnt but if we dont push stuff and help each other we never get anythign good done ...
-
vikas, any problems with drivers (especially AlienFX)?
-
nope he modded every thing lol and now AW released 64bit for the m15 x so they have driver support on the site
-
no i think he just did the alien fx but it worked and btw vikas did u start creating custom stuff with the lighting?
-
The reason I am evaluating it is that I want to be challenged by the problems that the world will face later. Already reported couple of problems with it and appreciate you all who have a legimate copy to report them back to get them fix while it is in production. -
-
awwwww i wish the m17 had fx
-
Well.. Win7 installed fine. I haven't done much with it except for the install. Looks like I'm going to have to download a bunch of new software for 32bit if I decide to keep it. I noticed a few devices which haven't installed via Win7 - So I need to update to resolve. However, one issue I ran into was attempting to update the intel chipset. Neither the intel chipset or matrix storage manager would update. I tried 32 and 64 bit updates but both say the software is not compatible with the OS. Anyhow..here's all I need to resolve.
The SM Bus is usually resolved via chipset, I'll do some research to see if there is a woraround/fix. Anyhow, the OS looks beautiful. I love the Windows load screen.. and it seems to run smoothe as silk. Anyhow, I give a thumbs up to Build 7000. -
have you installed the newest chipset drivers?
-
ok..so I tried right clicking and using "Compatability Mode" selecting Vista as the previous OS it worked with, yet it still isn't working. Gonna do some research on it.. Ok, sorry..that error was from Matrix Storage Manager..
The Chipset Utility says "This Operating System is not supported" -
extract them to a place and use the have disk method??
-
yea.. gonna give that a go. Booted back to vista so I could extract without any problems. Strange.. I can't see my Vista Partition thru Win7, but I can see win7 thru Vista. *shrugs*
-
keep me posted on how they work out together im going to dual boot them but i need to make sure its stable on my work computer
-
it seems stable so far.. IE 8 sucks, but I already knew that. If you dual boot, it's as easy as can be. The bootmgr is setup by the Win7 installer to offer the OS selection at boot. I just chose my partition to install on, and it did the rest. Gonna update, and move some files over to the Win7 install and then update.. I'll keep ya posted.
-
def let me know. or if i can help
-
ok..used have disk method after a reboot and it installed SMBus, as well as other devices. Nothing to it. Gonna install some programs, and try to set the system up to my liking.. I have some things to handle today so I won't make it too far. But, so far it seems gravy.
-
run as admin in windows vista compatibility to get it to install in win 7, thats what i did and it installed correctly
-
yea..tried that, but it didn't work for me. Still said it wasn't compatible. Maybe it just needed a reboot. But, it's working fine now.
-
Ok..so everything installed fine. I'm running my 32bit Modded 8.12 Driver posted in my thread. Just ran the setup.exe like I would in vista and it installed no problems at all. 3dmark06 still hits about 14.8k @ 3.3GHz, no difference there. Also, posting a screenshot of the WEI. But, overall I kinda like the feel of the OS. Very clean, has some OS X feel to it with the transparencies and mini-preview windows, etc. Gonna run vantage and see if it performs any better or worse..
-
glad to see ur pushin it hope fully realease this summer and it does get a bit better i dun care how it looks, it never stays normal with me you should see my desktop now object dock and windows task bar with alienware xenomorph skin on are in there auto hide its clean!!!!!
-
that is a sick desktop!
+rep for coolness
-
thnx alot my first rep i think imma cry
-
I actually installed it on my desktop first, and I have to say that I'm impressed. WTB 64 bit version of course.
Everyone's going to get a 5.5 score since the RAM limitation. But man, even with that limitation it is FAST! The low memory usage is great, it boots quickly (and looks cooler doing it!), and is overall a nicer experience.
Now to figure out what the heck it did with my WoW addons! I logged in and everything was wierd even though all I did was run it like I would in Vista (I even ran that folder. Odd.) Checked that it was loading my addons, and loading the out of date ones and nothing was out of place.Oh well. No time to test it for a couple days though since I'm not at home.
-
There is a new ATI beta driver out in Windows Update, but failed to install, probably it's for desktop.
Do you have any problem with drivers? I think I solved all of them 2 days ago, even the "Disable touchpad if ext is plugged in" feature is fixed today as well.
Feel free to ask me question if you have any. -
My installation used some ati drivers dated 11/13/08 version 8.11 I suppose. They installed fine, but I didn't use the drivers for any benching cause it wouldn't scale 3dmark, it shrunk to fit screen. Eh, mine installed fine though. And the win7 ati driver on the amd site is the same version that installs with vista. It does support mobility chipsets including the 3870s.

Can anyone check how much ram is uses after erm 5mins of usage ?
-
It seems it's about the same as vista in terms of ram usage.
But the initial ram usage is low before windows 7 slowly loads other things in the background. -
from what it sounds like, windows is making better use of system hardware than vista or xp do. so it may use as much ram, it just uses it better.
-
Slowly loads = a lot of disk activity ?
-
-
If the hdd icon is flashing then its noticeable
-
It's not like Vista constant light up style.
It's creepy style in Win7. -
I spend most of my time in resource monitor checking what the disk is up to.
Usually is superfetch messing around, the pagefile or the NTFS master file table
I miss my winXP
Windows 7 drivers
