Using Vista, whenever I open the Recycle Bin or I explore a CD/DVD with video files in it (avi/ wmv), the error saying that windows explorer stopped responding comes up.

In the past, I got the error about COM Surrogate but I fixed that by turning DEP off for the COM Surrogate service. But now I have no idea what could be causing this :( .

It's basically stopping me from recovering files from Recycle Bin or deleting or looking through files on any CDs/ DVDs.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

How long has this issue been going on for? I had a similar issue once with a Vista installation and I rolled back about a week and it stopped.

It's been going on ever since I've used the Complete Alienware Respawn function about 2 months ago but I kept ignoring it because I don't deal with video files in Recyle Bin or on CDs often. However, I don't know if it's after all the Vista updates were installed or immediately after the installation.

So rolling back is not an option for me. I think I will try SP1 later and see if it makes any difference.

    Thanks for the reply.

Nope :D . I've installed it previously but not since the complete reformat.

    I'll install it now though.
