    Hi Everyone.

I have just order a M15x on (30/03/2010) and at the moment i am refreshing the dell.com websites order status roughly every 10 minutes.
It is still on the "Work in Progress" stage at the moment.
I customised the laptop, but I only asked for 1 years warranty. After reading through these forums it looks like some people have continuous problems. Whilst others are the lucky ones.
Do you think it is worth the extra £200-£300 for a 3 year warranty ?
I have emailed my rep to check if it is possible first... but would like to know what anyone would have to say about it.

    Thank you,
    Duckstar

i bought complete care 3 years coverage. it tents to pay off eventually :)
you can see stories here of people that started with xps m1710, then when it failed they got m1730 then after gpu failures ->AW M17xR1 after DPC issues ->AW M17xR2..
    draw your own conclusions ;)

For the sake of 300 notes its money well spent.Parts for your machine are not cheap.I always take the 3 year warranty, this time its got accidental damage included. If a year down the line you want to sell the M15x it will be a lot more appealing to a potential buyer with 2 year nbd warranty than a M15x without a warranty. At the end of the day whats 300 quid nowadays . ;)

Yes, it's definitely worth it. The warranty and complete care is one of the main reasons I buy Dell/Alienware. It's simply unmatched.
Get three or even four years of warranty and complete care insurance. You won't regret it.
Also, if you sell the laptop you can usually even transfer the warranty (depends on the region) to the buyer, so an increased warranty will give you a better resale value as well.

It is worth it, but now that you've waited till after you ordered it to increase your warranty, they are going to gouge you on price. Be prepared to sacrifice at least one arm. Depends on how much you upgrade. They may ask for your first born son as well. Trust me, I did it before.

I purchased mine used from the original owner who sold it on eBay. Took almost 10 days to finally get it transferred to me officially at DELL. The Service Tag transferred right off but the warranty was still assigned to the original owner, it wasn't until I contacted Customer Support about extending the warranty that it finally was taken care of. I purchased a 3 year All Care Warranty for $335 which may be more than when you first build your system but felt it worth the cost.

    Thanks for Everyone's advice.
My Order has been cancelled, and I am about to dish out £335 extra I think for the 3 years service.
I can just see that 1 year down the line, something terrible might happen, and then it would have just been a waste of laptop without it.
The rep I am talking to seems to think that this won't delay my order process much further... I beg to differ..

    Thanks again,
    Duckstar

Wait WHAT? why did you re-order your laptop for the sake of adding warranty? You have 1 month from your point of purchase to buy additional warranty at the same price. It's only after that first month that they charge you that extra arm and leg =/

Duckstar, what did they want to extend it, vs. getting it through a re-order? For me to extend for an additional 4 years with complete care they conned me out of $923. Although before negotiating it was about $1050. I was able to return mine since I'm waiting for 5870's and got all the money for the laptop and warranty back, Returned it after a few weeks of having it and having the R2 come out right a week after I got mine.

I think you made the right choice. So far on my M17x R1 I have gone thru 3 vid cards and 1 MB.

I need to call them and extend it from 1yr to 3yrs if possible.

I started off with the 4-year myself (was a promotion at that time) and I initially bought the original XPS, then got the M1710, then M1730 (x3), M17x-R1 and now appears the R2. When I got the M1710, a glitch in the system showed my warranty expired and I bought 2 more years, so I am covered through 2014. With the failure rate I alone have seen, the warranty is well worth it.

I think that is the is the most common during of time, and that depends of the site where you bought.
