I'd just like to see what you guys think about this.
I bought a cheap laptop cooler, and I ran a few benchmarks using COD4, Act III, 1st mission and did a few run through's to find the average temps with and without the cooler. Since before this I'd read that a lot of people here haven't had any luck whatsoever with coolers and that coolers don't really affect the m15x.
The key specs in my rig are the T8300 & 9800m GT, both at stock clocks.
Without the cooler, using HWmonitor and RivaTuner, here are the temps (in celsius):
-CPU-
Max: 56/55
-GPU-
Max: 93
Avg: Hovering around 88-91
After waiting for everything to cool off, I plugged in the cooler and did the trial runs again.
-CPU-
Max: 50/51
-GPU-
Max: 89
Avg: Hovering around 84-86
So I'm not quite sure what to make of this. The cooler, like all laptop coolers, elevates the keyboard and I'm not a big fan of that. It's not the most comfortable position for long hours of gaming. But the cooling benefits seem to be rather significant. So the question is this: is the slight discomfort worth the decrease in temps? Or is it really negligible, and I shouldn't bother?

the possible discomfort of notebook cooler is nothing compared to the discomfort of a fried notebook imo
-
of course it's worth using a (good) cooler.

Hah, I paid like $5 for the cooler. I kid you not. I do wonder though, are 55/56 and 93 high temps for the said CPU and GPU? If it's within safe limits, then the cooler, though it makes a difference, is pointless, no?

I have a big portable house fan sitting on the end of my desk, not only dose it keep my hands cooler (I get sweaty hands while gaming) but it also lowers the CPU ~10C, GPU ~15C and HDD ~10C, when gaming. It just gets fresh air into the system, I do not have the notebook raised or anything, just a fan at the end of my desk, yes it is loud but with headphones on, you can barely hear it.
Worth using the cooler? On m15x
