Thats the thread that I'm on about and It does state that all the offered CPUs with the M15x is supported but does Alienware restrict, lock or block this?
The CPU i want to use is the T8300 which is at 2.4GHz and I'm planing to use i at around 3.0GHz but 2.xGhz would do too (Ex: 2.6Ghz)
-
2.6 ghz would be nice, anything above would be danger on your m15x honestly. this tool will work
-
Hmm I see..
Well I guess its better than paying loads more on the extra 0.2Ghz when I can get it for free
-
hmm ... hopefully it will be working soon with the x9000
-
As you might be aware, the extreme processor (2.8GHz) can't be overclocked as this option has been removed by AW from the Bios.
One of the likely reasons for this is that the vast majority of the X9000 (not to say ALL), experience CPU overheating and consequent downclock.
Sort to say... I don't really think you will have much of a margin to Overclock because of the very deficient cooling system implemented on the M15x. -
I don't think it would work on m15x, the pre-settings are for M570RU only.
-
Yeah thats for the m57ru, so we have to find the pll and the corresponding data sheets for the m15x to work with setfsb
-
or we ask them for building it also for the m15x xD
-
Damnnnnn!!! I didn't know... Hmm well is it possible to find those out for the M15x????
-
in order to find the correct pll of m15x, we need to open up the m15x physically. I am sure Audigy would happy to do it if someone lend him a m15x.
-
if you can say where we can find it, then its no problem, a few of us opened the m15x many times ^^
like me -
well, I´ll lend him my m15x ... if he really think, he can find the pll
I thought they had the pll for the m15x already
edit: And guys ... please stop with ... will not work, the m15x will overhead .... I know more or less what i´m doing -
Well I've just PM'd Audigy, so lets see what he'll say.. and also if you guys have opened the M15x would you guys consider it again and maybe work with Audigy to locate the PLL? This way you wouldn't have to send off your laptop
-
Duuudes Ive found pics of the M15x opened!!!
http://news.cnet.com/2300-1040_3-6240403-4.html?tag=ne.gall.pg -
I contacted Audigy as well
.... I hope he can explain me how to find the PLL ... to open the m15x is not really a big job
-
Does anyone know generally where the PLL is located?
-
opened it many times, and its no big thing to open it several times again ^^
i've to re-open it anyways
-
Oh yeah ... off topic ... @ tolkannn
where did you get the 2 GB Turbo Memory ... I´m looking for it since 1 month ... i know, they are just for OEM´s ... but there is always a way ... lol -
Well I tried
Oh well Ill keep on looking, why exactly can't we use it? is it because of the CPU still being hidden under the fan? -
there is many guides online, how to find the PLL ... BUT it´s on each Laptop and Mainboard different!
So, I´m waiting for Audigys answer! -

if someone can french, they are talking about the ppl.
and here i think , with this it should be possible:

Oh about the 2GB Tubro.. Soz its a typo
-
@ BlackPitt:
Hehe I just googled it:
Do not worry this will be short as it is not possible to overclock the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 through the FSB using SetFSB. It seems qu'Alienware've used on this Area-51 m15x the same PLL used by Dell's XPS M1730, which is unfortunately not yet supported by SetFSB.
But more incredible is the overclocking of Core 2 Extreme X9000, which has the peculiarity of having a multiplier freed up. It is through this that overclocking of this processor is possible via an option generally available in the BIOS. On this Area-51 m15x, it n'éxiste no option to increase the frequency of this processor! Worse, Alienware will not propose specific BIOS to enable it (see this news). A judge you…
It is time now to draw conclusions from this Area-51 m15x. -
-
BlackPit good find.. So could someone use this to try and locate the PLL?
-
Wait BlackPit can you open the M15x now and still staying online?
-
thx
i can, but not now, and i dont know when i will get to do it
perhaps, i think you are the thread starter, rename the thread into:
"Would The SetFSB Auto Tool Work On The M15x? Finding the PLL" or anything like that -
got a second very old pc xD -
Hey ok lol soz im mega excited!!
-
btw T8300 should be able to work at 2.9ghz steadily. what brainer said is false, my 5793 temperature barely increased by 2-3C
-
but actually i didnt plan to open it now
actually i got the m15x for 2 weeks now, and never had time to play xD -
1) Whaaat?? You doing it nnowww?!
2) How do you rename the thread? -
-
Thanks lol I feel like such a n000blet
-
-
Hi everyone!
As I said to Tolkannn and markus.kainer, you need to find M15X pll generator among SetFSB's list in order to actually manipulate it. There are only two ways to find out your PLL generator:
1. Open up your laptop, find it on the motherboard and then look at what it says it is.
2. Instead you can just try with every PLL generator in SetFSB, until you get the correct one. The correct one will show your CPU frequency as identical to the one in CPU-Z. The only way to find it, it´s via trial and error.
If you find your correct PLL then you can use my tool with the version correspondent of your CPU model. Just follow the How To in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=249470
If anyone need any help on this just ask! -
-
Is there anyone willing to help us? I would but the problem is I haven't got a M15x
-
hey, im new to the forums so hows it going?
well I did what audigy said and ran thru the entire list and found it for the T9300 on my m15x
RTM876-660
and to deal with heating issues, do what i did and set your lappy on a box-fan on high
EDIT: ah, i dont know if its because im running windows 7 x32 or not but if i tried to make any change what so ever, my screen would go to solid white and freeze. and that was the only clock generator number that would actually work.... so my consensus is that setfsb doesnt work for m15x? -
I'm surprised that no one has been able to find it till now. Why is it so difficult to find the PLL for the m15x?
-
no that was not the correct PLL
you have to look on the MOBO
since the m15x was custom i wouldn't expect any of the PLL to work -
There are quite a few threads of people hunting for it, aren't there? And wouldn't the PLL still be an existing one?
-
no body is really looking for it
and this is a custom board so i doubt any other would work -
we need to find someone that is returning thiers to look before sending it back...lol
-
Yeah, I'm really interested in overclocking mine - squeeze out a bit more performance!
-
well then go find it...
-
i spent an hour disassemblying my m15x today to try to fix the alien head and "Alienware" logo from not lighting up.
i fixed that and then spent a good 20 min looking for the so called PLL and 14mhz crystal on both sides of the boards near the CPU and found nothing. i found 1 realtek chip that could have been it but when i looked it up, it was the sound chip.
i used some websites that show you what to look for and found nothing that looks similiar to the pics ive seen
i would be willing to disassemble it again if some could give me more direction on where to look and i could take some pics. -
If you are able to take very high resolution pictures of the motherboard and post links to them, we may be able to get more people to assist in looking for it. God Bless
Would The SetFSB Auto Tool Work On The M15x?
