So I was checking out the Panasonic toughbooks and low and behold the toughbook 31 says 1100 nit brightness 13.1 inch screen for viewing in direct sunlight. I was like whaaaat and pitched a tent in my pants. You could burn vampires into dust with that bright of a screen. Who is the manufacturer of that screen? Can I get an 1100 nit brightness screen for the m17x or the m11x(will own an m11x once it switches to huron river platform with sandy bridge cpu). It would be so frickin awesome to be able to have a screen that can go that insanely bright if you want to. Another cool thing you could do is install a very high performing anti glare one much more darker and much more light diffusive then normal since you got this searchlight of a screen and you'd never see a speck of glare again and the screen would be shining brightly thorugh still even. Who makes this screen!!!! Please tell me they will make one that has connectors on it for m11x or m17x.

A screen that bright would wash out the colors. Panasonic made it for daytime use out in the sunlight (e.g. for military use). Even the 300 nit screen on the M17x-R2 is already too bright for some people's fragile eyes..ha.

so its impossible to make an 1100 nit brightness screen with high quality accurate colors?
-
Well I suppose you could just turn down the brightness. But seriously, what would you do with an 1100 nit screen? Not many people carry their M17x around outside under the sun. -
It would just be rly cool to have a super bright screen. Add to the WoW factor and man how come my m17x r1 wont break so they give me a free upgrade to dual 5870 rgb led core i7 R2. Of course i get stuck with a rock solid r1

I think the sun is 1000 nits so 1100 would burn your retinas right off.

Retina-burning brightness. The Sun in your hands.
(Or perhaps they could use it as a lighthouse light?) -

That just tells me that the sun is weak sauce and we should demand an upgrade
On topic... yeah 1100 nit is insane. I think 500 would be about as powerful as "normal" people could even stand for long periods of time. And even that would rarely get used at full brightness i think.
Wow 1100 nit brightness screens exist can I get one custom installed in an alienware?
