I can confirgue a t7200 with a x1900, vista home premium, and 512 megs of ram (cheaper to go the newegg route anyway) for around $2000.
Whats funny is that the dual sli 7900gs one with amd turion is much, much higher priced, and this one outperforms it...
Too bad I just spent that amount on a tv and some lcd monitors![]()
Not that I was looking of course![]()

The notebook is exactly the same as the M5750, its just got the Mobility X1900 installed in it. In theory, you could upgrade the graphics card from the M5750 to the Mobility X1900. The procedure would just invlove taking the previous card out, and installing the new one. Both the Mopbility X1800 and Mobility X1900 are in MXM Type III form factor, so it shouldn't be difficult. The cooling system will also fit, as the new core on the Mobility X1900 is pin compatible with the Mobility X1800, so the PCB for the graphics card should be pretty much the same. It will be expensive, thouugh, and quite hard to find a Mobility X1900 card in the first place.

Or you can just go out and buy a Fujitsu Siemens Xi 1554 with 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB, 240 GB and X1900. In Europe you will be much cheaper out by doing this.

you will also need a new bios update if you were able to get your hands on a x1900
-I already tried getting one from AW =D, but they aren't selling the blu ray optical drives or the x1900 as upgrades for 5750 owners =( -
mxm cards dont need a bios update
the bios is on the card. not like the dell gpus
You can buy the sony laptop blue ray drive on ebay for 935 -
Well according to my AW rep, the new x1900 needed a new bios...so just passing on the info, I take it as pretty reliable as this person's son works for the technology dept of AW =D
to buy a blu ray drive on ebay for 935 when to get one w/ the system from AW would 600...I'll pass
I also disagree w/ the OP that the new m5790 will outperform the current m9700 w/ the single core amd and sli 7900 gs...
as far as games are concerned, the m9700 will blow the m5790 out of the water...if you are talking about multi-tasking, video decoding etc.
then the m5790 will more than likely outperform the m9700 due to the obvious duel core cpu -
Also, the specifications of the Mobility X1900 are expected to take on the Go 7900 GTX. Zellio is not wrong when he says the Mobility X1900 will outperform two Go 7900 GS in SLI. We don't think it will beat that a Go 7900 GTX, because ATI may clock the card to low, to perform at the same speed. However, it will be close, as architecturally, this card is more advanced than the Go 7900 GTX. Both are still very powerful. SLI does provide a boost in performance, however, it is not always massive. The Mobility X1600 guarantees alot of speed, and I would go for the Mobility X1900 over two Go 7900 GS in SLI.
As far as I can see, the M9700 is a single core notebook. The M5790 is dual core. So, if the program were multi-threaded, the Core 2 Duo would perform much faster than a single cored Turion 64. Even if it was dual core, the Core 2 Duo has a more advanced, efficient and powerful architecture, and it would outperform it. -

I agree, it's a fairly reasonable price for the m5790. It starts at $1,299, and then it is a $350 upgrade to the MR X1900. If you bought many components for yourself, it will come in under $2k.
-
hmmm... I think the 5790 is a nice system. I'm not so sure I'd go as far as saying it will outperform the M9700. The m9700 scores 10k in 3DMark05 and close to 6K in '06. And, it handles all the games currently available.
However, it's probably a moot point, as the m9700 is being updated to the m9750, which will have Core 2 Duo, and better video cards.
Still, I like the look of the 5790... -
I agree that the m5790 has a MXM slot for the gpu, and in theory should be a plug n play application from the x1800 to the x1900...
but until we or someone gets a m5790 and checks their bios to compare, we won't really know if the gpu will require a bios update or not.
I only passed on the information from what I could gather from Alienware...
the first I spoke to was from their tech support staff and I can honestly say that they had absolutely no clue as to what they were talking about (ie. i was told that there was a new motherboard etc for the new x1900 and the blu ray drive...which imho is a bunch of bologne)
so I e-mailed a friend of mine who heads the AW customer service and who's son works in the technology dept. that's where I got the info on a needed bios update...which again I agree that doesn't seem like it would be necessary since they are MXM gpus.
I just want to get my hands on one and see how well it performs and overclocks...
there was an interesting page from the amd/ati site that had the comparisons of all their mobile gpus that I can't seem to find right now...I'll try looking for it and posting it here -
Hey Yang ... I thought you were going to get the parts and check it out for all of us????
-
Who manufacturers the m5790 for AW? I am wondering if it can be bought as a barebones unit.
-
nothing @ alienware is a good price.
not only is customizing it way overpriced (sometimes cost to upgrade to a processor is more then the processor alone and so forth)they get you with the $200+ just to ship to canada and $120 anywhere in the states...that is BS. -

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that's why it's a good thing there are lots of vendors to choose from
Alienware frequently runs specials where shipping is free. And there are ways to keep costs down ... e.g. ordering minimum RAM and then purchasing RAM from a third party. Guess the point is, Alienware doesn't market themselves as a low cost PC supplier. IMO, the lower end systems have been more competitvely priced in the past year or so, but there is still a premium paid for the Alien head. -
There is no reason for $200 shipping to my country. It would cost them $25 max to do it (its just regular business FEDex FFS), thats why most companies do it for free but they charge $200???
Give me a break, theres a reason nobody here looks at alienwares. -
Like I said, you're entitled to your opinion. I happen to like my Alienware. And, since you aren't interested in buying one, guess the $200 shipping fee shouln't be a problem for you.
Peace.
Wow, the x1900 m5790 is a good price! For once....
