I have just replaced my QX9300 with a X9100 as I was sick of the stuttering (which I tried everything to fix)
I am currently running zFactors 0.29 bios. However, The BIOS Multipliers are having no effect at all. Do I have to reflash my bios again after installing the new cpu?
-
-
Nope, no need to reflash. How are you verifying it's not working? Do you by any change have a screen shot of cpu-z you can post?
-
Well, in my bios the clockspeed is just not changing. When OCing my QX9300, the change showed here instantly.
But now whatever I change my multiplier to, it always says 3.07ghz.
Under CPU-z the cpu comes up as an 'Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8435 @ 3.06GHz'
No mention of the number 'X9100' anywhere.... -
Probably comes up as E8435 due to being an ES chip if it is. Also that might be how it displays in CPU-z, but I'm not sure about that.
I THINK that z-factor's 0.29 is designed for the QX9300. For the few hours that I used it (it actually made my stuttering 10 times worse so I reverted back to B14 which I have no issues with) I noticed that the multiplier displayed in the BIOS and in the Intel XTU was that of the QX9300, even though I have a Q9000. Although, it had no effect and the Q9000 multiplier remained normal. -
My chip certainly isn't an ES (Bought it brand new, and confirmed via the Intel Processor Identification Tool).
Though I just read this :
"this is the Apple version of X9100 ,44W used in imacs, renamed to E8435
will fit Notebooks with PM45 chipsets"
So is it possible the bios isnt picking up my chip as it has been rebranded? -
Get the newer version of CPU-Z I had the same issue with my QX9300 showing up as a Q9100 or something like that. That should verify the issue if there is one
-
Newest version of Cpu-z reports the same thing
-
can you provide a screen shot of cpu-z? Preferably while your system is under some type of load.
-
here you go, 32M Super Pi running and CPUz
-
Have you tried doing it through Intel XTU yet? My guess right now is the BIOS isn't recognizing it as a x9100 hence no unlocked multiplier. Did cpu-z read the right info with the default bios?

this is the item in question

And also, where do I get the XTU? I looked around but couldent find it anywhere... -
Here is XTU. Be warned some have complained of instability/stuttering after installing it.
Regarding the E8435, it isn't an extreme proc. The T9900 is also the same freq at a lower TDP but no unlocked multiplier. Need either the real x9100 or QX9300 to adjust the multi. -
Is it worth trying to get my money back and going for this one? :

How much more performance do you think I could get out of the extreme version with unlocked multipliers? -
If it's the same seller they may do an exchange with you.
I don't know if you would see any performance gain. It is possible that performance would go down based on how cool you can keep the system. -
it is the same seller. I sent him a message about an exchange, so fingers crossed I guess
I did do some benching on this processor, and tweaked using SetFSB. Managed to get up to 3.67GHz, which got me 16288 3D Marks in 3DMark06... Which I think is pretty impressive.
I guess it depends if I could beat these results to a decent margin or not with the Extreme X9100...
