Now that the m15x is offered with windows xp, does that mean that there is driver support for XP?
Has anyone tried it yet?
I'd like to be able to use XP, when I get tired of Vista, though it is running OK for now.

They wouldn't offer an operating system without drivers

Unless they're cruel, uncaring, and like watching people suffer and squirm.
That could be prettymuch any computer company. -
don't say that about alienware

but you get better frame rates on xp
after all the speculation on whether it would be possible AW do it for you
then again all those early adopters should be given the option to downgade!!! -
Oh, and i thought i have some kinda problem with the 8800GTX since it cant enable the DX10... omg!!!
so which OS should i instal? XP or VISTA or should i do dual-boot? is the dual-boot good? or bad?? is the DX 10 really that important to have?
played crysis on DX9 and currently it looks great when on high... never tried the DX 10... -
@Terek - I would just stick with Vista. You have no idea what kind of problems you are going to run into with XP. There are so many drivers that are specific to the M15x functionality that are only offered on Vista. One thing that could be a huge problem is downclocking with the 8800GTX.

yes but if AW are offering XP on the m15x now that means the drivers should be available to download.
I wouldnt worry, go with your favourite o/s thats the best way
so thats amiga kickstart and workbench for me then -
oh my so confuse @_@ .. i wonder if i should make a new thread.. but i really like the xp because can install lotsa old games and some software.. the DX9 gave me no problem in gaming!!
however i like the vista also due to the smooth and very cool graphic... but some programs arent compatible with it... but i wanna try the DX10.. want to see the ultimate gaming graphic.... -
Ok guys I have installed XP SP3(latest build) as a dual boot with Vista. OS is working fine was a pain to track down some of the drivers but I was able to install the driver for my network cards and also my video card. Now I was able to install the command center but i don't have the options to change the power options. I can change all the colors on the light zone except for the keyboard. The keyboard lighting does not work. Still testing out some stuff let me know if there is something you would like for me to try. I can't change video options. I also can't go to integrated graphics. I'll post pics soon

well I can change the lighting just not on the keyboard. On the keyboard it does not work. It would help if AW would go ahead and release the drivers for XP but i'm currently working on getting everything running. So far I'm pretty impressed with XP on the m15x but if I was you terek i'd still stay with vista just to be on the safe side but I'm enjoying the dual boot.

I did install OSD still doesn't work I'll try reinstalling the software. Maybe cause I installed the command center before I installed OSD. Thanks for the tip
-
anyone get their M15x on Xp pro?? since AW offer an XP PRO, there should be compatible with the command center and the lighting... thinking of getting dual-boot with XP Pro... since there still some software only available in XP OS ...
about the dual boot; if i were to install a game when i load up with Vista OS, will the game be available when i load up the XP OS?
is dual booting any good?? -
If you want to play the game in XP you will have to install in XP. IF you want the same game to run in vista you also have to install it for Vista. I'm happy with my choice to install both Vista and Xp. XP can run somethings I need for work that Vista can't. At the same time I don't want to get rid of Vista because it looks good and as of now the M15X was built for Vista.

Ok guys new update. My touch controls now work and I can also switch to integrated and Stealth mode! Alienware fusion still doesn't work and my keyboard LEDS don't work yet they do work when I use the test tool but thats it. More updates to come let me know if you have any questions.

tacomenace21,
If you still have trouble with the keyboard lights I'll have an agent contact you and help you out. I sent you a pm. -
great update!!!
guess i'll be going dual boot also!!! game that are for vista such as halo 2 i can install on it.. while game for xp (my old school game, diablo 2).. yeah!!!
im also in the same situation as tacomenace21, got some programs that i really need to work.. which i will be installing on xp... tomorrow i'll get an XP PRO since that's the only Xp version to support all of the M15x special feature (lighting, keyboard LED, etc) as this version also available on the AW site...
that's true right? there wouldnt be any problem installing the XP pro right?? -
no there shouldn't be any problem but you have to make sure that your xp pro disc has SATA drivers on it cause if it doesn't you'll get a no hardrive found error
XP on m15x? (update)
