Ordered my computer on monday, apparently it shipped out today, got a FedEx confirmation from AW email, checked the tracking number it says it'll arrive on the 31st!

Soon we will know just how good the xfire 4850's really are..
-
great hope you know how to use a computer good
-
-
Congrats Maximus
Just picked up a m17 this morning and going to tinker with a bit for a few days .
-
Grats man, if you have driver issues, its 9.3 DNA drivers you will need for the xfire 4850's, unless AW have adressed any issues
Again congrats -

Damn you!
I ordered before you (unless you mean last Monday, rather than yesterday[UK time here]) and due to UK AW will be recieving later...no fair haha
PS. Make sure you've read up on the issues this machine can have with quads before buying the QX9300 and are happy to take the 'risk'. -
It's in Tennessee now, I'm in Arizona
And yeah, I read up on QX9300 and I think I should be ok, If the Zfactor bios doesn't fix it I'll just try the copper mod thing, if that doesn't work I'll just sell it for like $100 less and get the x9100
Doesn't hurt to try -

Hahah, you jammy git, I guess the US AW office is a little more on the ball than the Ireland one.
Still DHL have my laptop now too, so hoping for a Friday or Monday dropoff. -

Nice, make sure to benchmark the snot out of it as delivered then start tweaking it.

DHL @ Home are horrid, basically hired guys using thier own cars/vans etc...not great. Also, I think like the others, DHL are franchises in a lot of places, so service really depends on where you are.
DPD have always been absolutely solid with me; by contrast DHL once 'tried' to deliver a previous package. The tracking info mentioned a little about the site; and listed 'White door'...my door is brown ¬_¬. -
hahaha. Had exactly the same problem. The only difference my door was black. Called them and i said, where did the guy managed to find a white door in this area !?
-
Thats strange....I find DHL really good in all aspects and even deal with them a lot through work, they are really excellent and Ive never seen or heard of them using their own cars or vans...perhaps its different down south dunno.
@quadzilla....Have you just bought Halogods M17? he had good benchmarks...what does it game like? is he gunna get the M17X? ...just wondering because when I first joined the site he was a frequent poster then dissapeared....boy it was hard for us M17 owners once the M17X came out..lol -
Ya tonytoff i got his M17 .. I have not done much with it thus far but ran a few games on it and for sure is capable of running them well . He was a nice guy to deal with(we dont live far from each other so it was a person to person transaction) and he gave a fantastic deal i could not pass up ill put it that way .
-
Ok, so I work every day from 8 to 5 Mon - Sat and FedEx is scheduled to deliver it this Friday before 4:30pm
How do I ensure that I get it on Friday?I heard they don't deliver on Sundays which is the only day I'm off.. what do I do?
-
You could try and leave a note signed maybe to leave it at the door ( not sure how safe it is where you live ?) or pay someone to stay at your house while your at work till its delivered (family/friends etc).
-
Don't know anyone who could stay
All my friends work those days/times, same with my family
It gets to be around 110F in the daytime here in Arizona so I wouldn't be comfortable telling them to just leave it even though my neighborhood is perfectly safe..
Any other ideas? I could leave the backdoor open and leave a note to just drop it off right inside the door.. think they'd do it? -
Yes possibly if you specify in a note what to do . You might be able to call fed ex when you get the tracking number so as to leave specfic instructions for the driver(not sure its even possible but it sure cant hurt to try).
-
Hey Maximus- where in Arizona are you? I could probably wrangle up a few good-for-nothing college students to go ransack- er, I mean, *watch* your house for you on Friday....
-
You could call FedEx and ask them to hold it for you at the office and you could pick it up instead of having them try to deliver it. This would only work if you could get there during business hours though.
-
I'll leave a note, if it doesn't work then I'll call them and ask what office it's at & if I can come get it
Didn't know you could do that, thanks! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
actually, things are always better on the "dark side"
Getting my "dark side" ordered tomorrow -
Unless something better arrives then next spring is when I will be purchasing a M17X.
But has Halogod ordered the M17X?
I would consider other manufacturers now though as I feel a little more informed mainly from you guys, especially if this 4850 upgrade goes sour on the M17. I like the look of those MSIs as well and think they are well priced.
Hope you enjoy your new baby scook! -
-
@maximus, just be careful pal, there is always a risk that something could go wrong asking the delivery company to leave the parcel in your back garden regardless of where you live....is it really worth the risk? I would just leave work/school early just to be on the safe. Regardless of how safe you think your area is you something bad could always happen. What if you get an underpaid delivery guy pissed off with his job but clued up enough to know that the rather large +17inch package has come from Alienware....its always a possibilty, he could say he left it there and nobody would be able to say any different. I just dont think its worth the risk for the sake of finishing work an hour early!
good luck though with your new machine. -
I couldn't decide between the M17 and M17x until the price drop on the M17, so I jumped on it. I went cheap on the RAM to save a few bucks figuring it'd be the easiest thing to upgrade for someone like me with zero tinkering skillz. What's the most\best RAM to get for the M17? Can you go with 1333, or does it have to be 1066? I did get the QX9300, are the issues prevelant? I'm nervous now. Thanks...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It will run 1333 at 1066. 4GB (2x2) is enough for 99% of people. Newegg has many 4GB kits for around $65 so you choose well - screw dell and $200 for a 4GB kit...haha
-
nice config otis!
-
Thanks tony. I'm dreading the day it gets delivered next week and the bosslady freaks out! Better to ask for forgiveness instead of permission I guess.
Anyways, how much did that Antec cooler cost you, and is it worth it? -
Hi otis,
I absolutely love this cooler and bought it for around £50 from Amazon.
mainly because it looks gorgeous and makes the M17 look awesome with the way they sit together.
In terms of temps you dont notice much really but thats probably because my temps are nearly always low anyway so I cannot tell how effective it is but I feel much better knowing its there and believe it helps the notebook parts last longer and just perform better overall.
they are even cheaper now;
http://www.google.co.uk/products/ca..._catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=6#ps-sellers
oh and I always think one of these is good;
http://www.e-cloth.com/
cleans your AW notebook perfectly and makes them look like new. Especially the M17 as its matte black and picks up stains easily.
I paid £7 for my 2 cloths.
Also, if you are interested in the cooler then search the forum for a review of this same cooler(ANTEC 200) by a guy called Whizzo.
good luck mate! -
Any chance that the Alienware M17 shipping with the 4850s has resolved the Quad core CPU stuttering issues and/or audio issues reported by owners whom bought the system with 3870s? Is AW even aware of these problems/issues?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Not a chance at all it is fixed. They cannot afford to fix it and NOT tell all their m17 owners, so we would know.
It has been shown that the stuttering is due to software and not hardware - my opinion is that a BIOS update MAY fix it (but i know nothing about editing a BIOS). Software tweaks in the OS that effect low level controls over the cpu seem to help, so a BIOS would be able to more directly help I think
Yes AW knows of the problem, and they like to pretend that their Bxx Bios fixed it, which it didn't. If you want a quad and no stutter, get an m17x pretty much -
Is stuttering OS dependent? Is it a vista issue? Those running XP x86 or x64 have the same stuttering issues?
I'd just get the m17x, but I know I won't like the LCD. -
Get the M17 with the X9100 then. There are no stuttering issues and it will probably perform better than the quad core for single running applications anyway because of the higher clock rate.
-
I am running a Q9100 on a OCZ whitebook and did not experience a single stuttering. I guess the issue is specific to QX9300.
-
-
i am for the right price
also the issue is on ALL quads -
Which country are you in NGH?
-
-
You're in Clauss/Don territory. Maybe one of them want an upgrade.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Don will be needing a qx9300 when he can afford it. For the m17x he is ordering whenever he can sell this 9800m gtx haha
