Why not go to the source? Contact Justin from XoticPC via PM. You'll find his profile in the Sager/Clevo section of the board.

First of all, I don't see how a reseller can possibly provide you a product faster than the original vendor (Dell Alienware, in this case) could provide it to them in the first place. Secondly, buying from a reseller is always about the cash discounts (wherever applicable) and the additional upgradability as well as the options to choose different peripherals / additional components not offered by the original vendor.

In any case, as stated above, you should PM Justin. He's extremely helpful! :)

Hmm well I guess what I'm learning through the various forum threads is that some resellers seem to operate a different business model than other resellers. Some actually have systems already in their own inventory and can ship it out quickly (different thread mentioned BTOTECH shipping a customized system in just a few days, their site claims 1 day turnaround on non-customized systems). Others seem to simply take your order and then order a system to be built by Dell and then after they finally receive that they do any needed mods, so they don't keep any inventory. Next time I'll pick one of the former types of resellers rather than the latter.

I have asked Justin, he was unable to provide any detail at all on what is taking so long and simply quoted their standard "6 to 12 business days" line. I guess this is because they seem to have no actual inventory on hand at the time you order and are having to wait for Dell to build and deliver to them a R4 before they can do anything.

That is usually how it goes. With this ever-changing and fast mutating industry and market, this is the only way for a reseller to assure the customer the very latest in configuration options and pricing.

The situation is actually a little trickier than that. We do have stock models in inventory and are able to customize those as need be. There are certain circumstances though that do require a special request from Dell. Those options including the Nebula Red finish, certain warranty requests, custom etching or Alienware specific parts that we aren't able to retain on hand.
