    I travel a lot and I have a m17xr3 from 2011 with a 2720qm and a 580m.

I mostly play flight simulator x, xplane, Civ 5 and HD video editing.

Which would be better? I see both come with a 6700hq and the xps comes with a 560m and the aw has a 570m.

The m17 struggles at times with Civ v and fsx on max levels. I would assume with 5 years newer tech it shouldn't be an issue? The folks in 2011 assured me I could run fsx on max, but with aftermarket scenery, the fps easily grind to a halt.

    I thin kyou mean a 960m and a 970 (and there is also a 980m version)

For games the AW is loads better. But I would wait a bit till the pascal GPU vesions are here. They are on the brink of launching.

If you travel a lot i suggest XPS. You still can play your favourite games, cause the 960m is good GPU.

I highly suggest to wait a month or two. The next generation GPUs from nVidia are coming (1080, 1070, 1060, etc.) and I'm sure Alienware will refresh this October most likely.

As others stated, wait if you can. If you travel xps. Its much lighter and easier to carry. Then again the AW has longer battery life.
