Along with the other concessions I have already received (PSP, free next business day shipping). I am getting a free extra battery for my M17x. I am waiting on a sup to call me back with shipping details.

Wait wait, what? didnt you already get your laptop, yet still you get the free battery lol?, how come?

Yes I received my laptop on 4-29 and tomorrow morning my battery will be shipping.
The short version is this since I purchased an extended life battery with my original XPS order (9100 way back in 2004) I have been given an additional battery with each system replacement. -

In 2004 I ordered my first XPS gen1 back in 2004 I included an extra battery and a bookbag, then in 2007 when that system was replaced with a M1710 I contacted Dell support about getting those items replaced as well since the battery from a Gen1 XPS would not fit into a Gen2 and ofcourse the bookbag for a Gen1 would not hold a Gen2 the agent agreed and obtained permission from his sup to replace both items for me. They sent me an extra battery for the Gen2 and a Targus bookbag.
Then in 2009 my gen2 was replaced by a Gen3 (M1730). I called them and explained that after my previous system replacement that I recieved an extra battery and a bookbag to fit the laptop and the agent verified this information and took it to his superviser and within a couple of days I was given an extra battery for the Gen3.
I just completed the same process and I am getting an additional battery for my Alienware M17x.
Each time I have had to return the additional battery after I recieve the new one, but they always include a free shipping label. I did try to get a bookbag as well but they said since the M17x will fit inside the Targus bag they couldn't replace it. I will probably order the Orion bag in the next few weeks. I need a new grill first. -
I received the battery for my M17x today.

ok just curious and looking for some more clarification, you bought one laptop then got it replaced how? is it just that they no longer are making that exact laptop so your able to get a free "upgrade" to the one they are replacing it with? or did you buy some extra warrenty deal that is letting you upgrade your laptop with new ones or is something else going on? im just real curious is all to how your getting upgrades and how much it might be costing you.
thanks -
Wow talk about abusing the warranty. Thanks for driving the cost up for the rest of us. -
-
I haven't abused my warranty at all. -
Sounds like abuse to me. Dell needs to cut people like this off. 4 laptops? Rediculous.
-
Guys, chill. If his laptop was defective/broken and they didn't stock parts to fix it..they HAD to replace it with the newest model. It would only be abusing the warranty if he sent it back under false pretenses (he said it was broken when it wasn't or he broke it himself).
If you had a laptop that you dropped $3000 on, plus $300 for an extended warranty, and it stopped working, you would expect them to replace it, no? If you don't, then you're a liar. -
I wouldn't expect them to replace it that many times, no way.
-
How'd you swing a free PSP? I can understand getting cheap Alienware products for free, but a free PSP? Did the sales rep have it laying around and just offered because he wasn't using it?
-
Slaymetender: You stated Dell needed to cut people like me off.
You seemed to not notice in my post that THEY (being Dell) offered to extend my warranty, They (being Dell) replaced my systems per the conditions of that warranty, and my warranty is in effect until Oct, 2013 and IF they (being Dell) offer to replace my M17x I will certainly accept, and if they (being Dell) offer to allow me to extend my warranty I will gladly pay for said warranty. Tell me you'd do anything different... go ahead I am waiting.
cokecanninja: One of the supervisors I was working with offered me any sub 100.00 (USD) item on Dells website as a concession since it had taken so long to get my M17x, and the fact that several agents misled me into believing that my system would ship sooner than it did. While we were on the phone I was looking thru the site on my son's Asus and told her I didn't see anything that I really wanted or needed. Please keep in mind I had spoken to this supervisor several times and I honestly believe we had built some sort of rapport and she genuinely wanted to help me. At one time she called me back while I had my son at the doctors office and in this conversation she asked me what was wrong etc, so I told her that he is disabled etc, etc (no need to go that far into detail here). Well she asked if there was any games he would want from the site so we took a look, and I told her the only thing I seen that he might want would be the PSP, she asked if I would accept it as a concession and I said sure, well it took most of a day but she received authorization from her managers to send it to me. -
I have owned 4 Dell laptops, and I have paid for each of my upgrades. I would think that each computer has a useful lifespan, and you have found a loophole in the warranty to take advantage of that. Congrats. And no, I would not do what you have done. If my computer broke that often, I'd get my money back and move on to another vendor. Instead, you stick around and are stoked with every "free" upgrade.

This thread in my opinion is pointless & should be closed.

I believe that Dell is standing behind their product and the contact we both agreed to. Since my initial purchase I have spent over 1000.00 extending my warranty. Every time I have extended the warranty Dell has contacted me asking if I wanted to extend it, I don't get where anyone can say I am taking advantage of, or have found a loophole. -

I am definitely a Dell promoter to all friends and family members. Speaking for myself I will never purchase any laptop other than a Dell/Alienware.
-
Yeah, Dell is a great company. Except that they major rip you off for memory upgrades. I was going to get some more RAM for my M15x, went to their site, $500 for a 4GB stick. Fortunately they had all the specs so I went to Newegg and found a 8GB kit for ~$350.
-
Dell usually price matches on ram if their price is totally off their rocker. The last two systems I've bought they've done that. I don't think they will on the 17x though. The price to upgrade to 8gb is cheaper than purchasing 8gb separately.
Btw, I also agree, only buy Dell/alienware. -
-
I always found it cheaper to build my own desktops than buy one. But I no longer have the space for a desktop I rely on my laptop for all pc needs. -

I'm not targeting you specifically here - just expressing my general disbelief and frustration. Several people on these forums seem to be able to get free system "replacements" quite regularly. While I'm not suggesting that some of those people don't experience genuine problems it does sound like it's treated like a "free upgrade path" in a lot of cases. How many people in the 5870 thread wanted to delay their replacements so they could get dual 5870s?? I'd understand if they had something of equivalent performance prior to their current machine but how is this is not also abuse? It sure didn't sound like they were delaying their replacement to pay extra for the 5870s...
I don't just blame the consumer who may be abusing the process - I think Dell encourages this behaviour. I'll be honest, if I was in your position I wouldn't say no - I don't think anyone would. I know it doesn't make sense for them to hold stock of outdated models so if your laptop fails completely during the warranty period, then sure - I definitely believe they should replace it - but I'm constantly surprised that people are able to haggle spectacular upgrades on (several) replacement systems at no cost and the only thing they pay for is another extended warranty. -
Um, can we close this thread?
It's useless and no one cares about someone getting free stuff unless we all are getting free stuff -
Guys... seriously, fine, you're jealous we get that. You didn't get free stuff and now you're getting antsy at the guy that did, right. Don't shout at no-one in particular just because you don't like the fact that you didn't/wouldn't buy an extended warranty. He's perfectly within his rights do do what he did, and Dell obviously agree or they wouldn't have send him the laptop, so shut up thinking you know better.
Congrats Live2Ride. I can't say I've ever had a Dell rep. be that nice as to offer me a PSP, you obviously did soemthing right. -
Definitely not jealous, lol. -
Mods, can we close this thread? It's becoming a useless one now. Just full of crap trolling.
