    Alienware m5500i-R3 laptop.

Recently, the video card in it died. So, I order a new one, put it in, and it worked. There were lines going across the screen, however. I pulled the card out and reseated, and that's where the trouble started.

After reseating the card, the laptop would not boot. It would start up for about 2-3 seconds, but before POST, it would restart. No beeps or anything. Checked the video card, RAM, CPu, battery. Reset CMOS. Checked all the cables. Nothing.

Then I noticed that there's a very tiny wire running from beside the RAM to underneath the black masking beneath the video card. It's covered by the black-cloth-tape stuff. It seems while reseating the video card the second time, I managed to disconnect the wire. It looks like it was soldered to a contact on the board, but I can't tell which one.

I'm assuming that this is why the laptop's not booting. Does anybody happen to know which contact it connects to, or have a reference picture I can use? :)

Thanks, but that one is different than mine. I wish I had a picture :(

It's not a wireless cable. It just seems to be connecting one contact point on the mobo to another contact point, so I'm assuming it's transferring power for something.

You're right. The back of the laptop says m5500i-r3, but upon inspecting my purchase invoice, it's really an m5550i-r3.

I took some pictures. It's a very tiny wire. I don't think there will be guides for this one anywhere lol.

Hi. Have got my 5500 apart to replace the Video card - has a similiar wire.
At the end that is loose, is soldered to the leg of a surface mount transister, which is insulated from board with bit of tape. It is going to take a very steady hand, very fine tipped iron and magnifying glass, to re-solder it.
Just to be sure that your wire and mine are doing the same thing, the second photo is of the other end, socket is for the fan. It would probably be advisable to know if the motherboards are exactly the same version/revision/mods. But I haven't been able to get the notebook apart to find any mod tags. The board label is 37GP5300-C0 PCB M/B BD P53 REV:C.
Hope the photo is of use, Good Luck.
