Yet another problem with the m15x: Screen wont turn on from hibernation.

This is getting annoying. Now when it goes into hibernation mode, the screen wont come back on. The computer is on, my keyboard is lit and somehow I played around and got the music to play. The screen will just not turn on, what to do? Only thing I can do is to remove the battery and the cable and restart it.

This is really becoming annoying, all those little problems with this computer. First the damn thing sometimes takes 30 secs to turn on, then sometimes the lights wont come, the quick controls are not very responsive, specially volume controls.

Seems more like a software problem than hardware. The only thing I can think of is to do a restore point one by one - from the last to the first until your problem is solved. If not, use your recovery and reinstall everything. I use to have this problem b4 but it disappear after reinstall. u might also check if u have the latest bios. If after reinstall u still have this problem, I will bet its your GPU. There are known cases with nvidia. CAll AW immediately. Your GPU might be tossed

Complain until an on-site tech comes to your house. Either that or get them to send you a new one and send back that one. That's ridiculous honestly.

Make sure that you get all the Windows updates. It is a driver combatibility problem.
I had the same problem with my m5550, until I ran and got all the Windows Vista updates. Download this hotfix from Microsoft.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929734

There are a couple hotfixes regarding this problem. So, if this hotfix doesn't work, try googling for a different hotfix regarding this issue.

I had the same problem, try turning off bluetooth, worked for me. This seems to be a problem with vista since it happens to other brands as well. good luck :)

I just got this problem yesterday for the first time on my new m15x. It has also froze during a shutdown once as well. I thought they tested these things before they went out? has that hotfix worked?

I hate saying this. But how do they test their computers. Do they just go "Alright power works, lets ship this out". How do you miss a crucial fact such as "oh this laptop doesn't resume from hibernation".

I swear I may have to start a computer/laptop company haha. I would actually test the laptops with games :)

@OP - There probably is a fix for this somewhere. I know that my problem of resuming from standby doesn't happen with Single GPU mode on, but always happens with SLi enabled. I think you should be able to fix this.

XP had tons of issues like this coming out of sleep/hibernation.
Its likely the OS/driver/software issues. But its not just Vista.
XP did this to TONS of people

BUT I then downloaded all the latest Windows vista updates and have not noticed the problem since. I'll let you know if it happens again.

I just recieved my m15x yesterday and I am having the same issue of my screen not turning back on after resuming from sleep.

Update: Just got off the phone with tech support and they have isolated this issue to the memory modules used with a 4gb ram configuration. They are sending me out new memory. I will update as soon as I get the memory installed and tested.

this is a thread i started ages ago Hibernation Problem
i think this one is slightly different from your problem but i thought id add it here just for a bit of advice.

    to cut it short.
i pressed hibernation. screen and mouse switched off but all fans and light fx were still on.
nothing i did would turn it back on.
tech sugested i open bottom plate and press a reset button on the motherboard. this done nothing. only way i could reset it was to take the battery off.

my sugestion: if youve still got a 2gb+ file in your cleanup file just delete it.

I hate hibernation. Even on my Dell, it works, but doesn't save me much (if any) time over straight bootup. And stuff just stops working after time in hibernation. I disable it, use sleep and shutdown only.

Maguai, as I already replied on some other thread, use HWmonitor and RMclock (this programs are listed in the following thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=248848) to monitor your temps accurately and follow your clocks and voltage in a graphical way.
This will give you a clear answer.
    Also... run it for longer!

    Good luck.
