All I can say is I render architectural scenes for hours at a time an it blows my 50 pound precision workstation away. So Im not totally complaining about the extreme processor, downclock or not, It does the job. I waited 7 years to do my work on a laptop and now I finallly can. But I will try to run those tests after I do some work. It this computer perfect. Hell no. Are my others, Hell no.One thing I do wish, I wish alienware was a little more helpful at support and following up on problems.

Well... surprise, surprise... Look at that rollercoaster of downclocking!
So yes, you do have downclock (as the vast majority of owners with the extreme processor). It would be interesting to check it when you are rendering stuff. To see it on a more "real" scenario.
Thanks for that. If you don't mind posting on the "CPU downclocking thread", that would be extremely helpful and informative. -

HEY The alienware guy told me there is going to be a fix for this sleep/hibernate problem. he said the original didnt work so they are working on it and should be up for download by the end of the week... we will seee.

my display won't activate (or at least, seemingly so), from a sleep session. and Hibernate often fails with hiberfil.sys being corrupted.
I've tried disabling it, enabling it, deleting the file manually, everything, it just won't work 100% and is therefore useless. -

well I asked him and he said this should work. I havent used sleep once yet. Its never worked but I I never have trouble with hibernate... I hate having to keep hibernating it when I take a break, its a pain, sleep would be way easier. He told me it would be out by the 11th so keep checking on the site.

about time they had a fix for this. -

I've got the some problem, the screen doesn't turn on after hibernation and sleep but not every time, sometimes is ok, but only sometimes
-
my story goes like this:
before i deleted the 2gb+ hibernation file in the clean up i thought id see what state hibernation would put my m15x into. i pressed hibernation and all it turned off was the screen and mouse. everything else was still running including all fx lights and fans. i tried re booting but the on/of AW head done nothing. i unplugged the dc and tried again but still nothing. tech support had not heard of this before but sugested opening the bottom up and pressing a reset switch on the motherboard, this done nothing. only option was to remove the battery and replace it. this reset everything to off and a touch of the AW head started everything up as normal.
as you can imagine i deleted the hibernation file straight away as i certainly didnt want to go through that again. -

Hi, if you are having a sleep issue please inform me how much memory your system came with and if you upgraded your memory.
If you are having this issue and your system came with 4gb from Alienware they will send you new memory to fix this issue. Thank you. -

I have 4gb. But when I asked about it, he said, that wasnt the issue....

Mine crashes coming out of sleep in both Vista and Linux (Ubuntu 8.04)... I'm thinking we need a new bios fix.
Yet another problem with the m15x: Screen wont turn on from hibernation.
