Wow. Not that I'd ever buy anything like that at Best Buy, but still...

Dell/AW is even more overpriced here in EU. Here Alienwares cost nearly double of the USA price, and importing is not worth it due to the Swedish custom + tax fees...

That's actually a great price but the screen resolution is a deal breaker for me

True but about 500 dollars in savings with bestbuy

plus you dont have to go through shipping fees you just drive up and pick it up at the store and honestly id much rather deal with best buy for warranty support than dell/alienware but hey my opinion is biased seeing as ive been on the phone for literally about 41 hours and 30 minutes in the past about 2 - 3 weeks with dell support trying to get a working computer because the one they sent me brand new had hardware issues (confirmed by dell) but nope they stalled me along until the 21 days were up and are now saying that they cant do anything about it because the 21 days are up... this is with the complete care 4 year advanced warranty too mind you.

Is the 1600 x 900 screen really that bad?

The 900p screen is absolutely not a bad screen, but when buying a laptop of this price range you should get the best screen. The screen is one of the most important parts of the laptop.

Yeah that 900P screen is a deal breaker. All that GPU power not put to use :(

Best Buy always manages to fail in one way or another.

This time it's the screen... 900p LOL.

    900P on a 17"... NO. NEVER! Even 900P on a 15" makes me cringe.

    All that GPU power?

Lmao, the 6970m cowers at 900p in most games and I could only imagine how bad it would handle 1080p.

This, I have to agree with. In New Zealand, my M11X (In sig) costed $2080 NZD while my dream desktop will cost $2071.67 NZD. I have lost all respect for Alienware, I have realized that their products are given' a flashy look and then people are attracted to buy it. My foolish cousin wants to buy an Acer (*cough* crap) Predator G series desktop, it looks very flash but it still uses a 200GTX series GPU. He will get it in the head when he sees the performance of that. @OP, that...is...amazing. Thanks for sharing :)

Realize when you buy an Alienware, you pay a price premium for the name. Just like when you buy a Ferrari, the actual car worth is probably half but that Ferrari badge on it makes it $$$.

If you actually go to the US in person and have it sent there. Then unpack it and take it back like you had it with you in the beginning there is no tax or custom fees ; ) thats what i did :D

The air ticket itself will not make it worth it unless you already plan on going to US. I and my family usually travel to Asia (Singapore) during holidays because my mothers sister moved to Singapore to work in the Swedish embassy.

You will only benefit from it if your travel plans are originally set on US. Changing your travel destination to buy a computer is not worth it at all. Even if you are in US, there will be a problem to place the order from Dell/AW if your not a US citizen or have US relatives/friends who are willing to help.

Importing from Hidevolution/mail forwarding will end up to be the same price as buying directly from the Swedish Dell. Importing via mail forwarding etc = base computer price + 20% custom fee + 25% Swedish tax = not worth it for people who live in Sweden.

I paid about double the US price for my computer compared to what the US citizens pay for similar systems. I did not have any other choice than to do that (bought from Swedish Dell). Atleast I got a Swedish keyboard ;)

Yeah that is most correct ; ) I was going to the US anyways so it dident bother me. Im just sayin if you plan on going to the US and want an AW than that might be the time to buy it! And with the keyboard, i dont care too much. I can still use æøå its just not written on the keys ; ) So yeah, it only benefits if you are going there to begin with : )

    wait what?
i have no problems with games at 1080p with a 6970m
only exceptions i've found would have to be crysis 2 with the dx11 patch on ultra and the witcher 2 on ultra. everything else i play runs smooth as butter at 1080p

I, just got a very clever idea. Buy a M18X laptop made by Alienware, but tell them not to have the name Alienware anywhere on the machine, not eve in the OS. And then, go to Google images, and print out a Alienware sign and the Alienware head, and glue them onto the M18X. PROFIT!

2gbs of GDDR5 is more than enough to handle the native res. I see in your sig that you have the 6970, so I don't know why you'd be mouthing it.

The 6970m can easily handle 40fps on Crysis 2 at 1080p, I don't see how that isn't power...

You are still going to be dealing with dell/aw warranty support unless you buy a bestbuy warranty, which you would have to take into the store, not in-home.

This may be a good price, but with no 1080p I don't know why anyone would buy it. Buying a computer from BestBuy is just dumb in my opinion. Last thing I want is Geek Squad nerds working on my laptop if it breaks.

I have learned that there is a price you pay for trying to save a "buck". People that buy Alienware for the "name" are people that buy it as an Accessory that they will hardly ever use. ie: Alienware M11x with slowest processor, no bluetooth, cheapest screen possible, save a buck everywhere you can on the thing because in reality you can't afford it or don't actually want it (you just want to be really generic when you tell your friends you have an Alienware computer because if they ask details about it, they will realize you chose to buy the cheapest one to be part of the "in" crowd) smallest HDD, and least amount of ram.

If you're in the US, you should definitely always wait for sales on Alienware machines and shoot for 25-30% off. That almost always makes the Alienware system cheaper than pretty much every other brand for a similarly configured system. Tack on next day on-site support with accidental protection (kids, spilled drinks) and where you don't have to mail a system in and be out of a system to use and you'll notice that there could be a lot worst vendors out there.

Paying full price for Alienware when you simply don't need too is simply stupid.

Lastly, all computer manufacturers have problems and inside, it's all the same stuff anyways (Intel, Nvdia, AMD, Kingston, etc, etc).
