mine doesnt have SLI (yet). I can say that Im very happy with the laptop so far! Mind you Ive only had it for a day so havent had much time to do anything on it. I did play LOTRO in DX10 at max settings native rez and it ran flawless.

Ill say Im very happy with my laptop and Im glad for the purchase over the m15x. Yes the m15x has more power but this is plenty powerful to play all the games I want to play at med to high settings. Mine is also very low spec as you can see in my sig. I do plan on upgrading to 4 gigs of ram and adding the sli option with the 8700m in the near future (probably upgrade to the 2.33ghz processer but shhh dont tell alienware :p)

    Hi,
I think you'll be happy with SLI. When my m9750 was working, it was rock solid. Take care and try many drivers (particularly the 174.16 driver). After you get that magical combination of drivers, you'll love it.

Yep. He about 5 years old. The gecko can climb glass and growl and Barks There mating Call. Sounds like they are saying the F word and they are the meanest Geckos you can buy.

If he on the glass right he looks like a Alienware head lol.

I am not so happy with my M9750 + 7950GTX Sli right now. I think the GPU's are dead because when I try to install drivers they are crashing no matter what so right now I'm running my notebook with no drivers because none will work :(

Ugh I hate SLi with a burning passion.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this laptop. I have one with dual 8700m cards and it doesn't run ANY GAME while in SLI mode. In fact when I got the system AW didn't even bother to turn SLI on, they left it off.

Oh, and for those of you that already own this system with that configuration, you are screwed. AW actually had the audacity to tell me that if I wanted to return their defective piece of crap that I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee.

If you live in the UK and if the laptop was not "fit for purpose" you could have waved the sales of goods act around and not paid the restocking fee

Yes, of course I have enabled SLi, that is why I have system crashes. The ONLY way I can play games (Team Fortress 2, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Bioshock) is if I TURN OFF SLi.

The thing is that I *paid* for the SLi configuration and I it *should* work. Why would Alienware sell a system that just doesn't work with any game?

Its decietful on their part, especially with the fact that when I opened it up out of the box, SLi was disabled. That tells me right there that they KNOW about this problem, yet they sell it on their website as if that configuration works.

My SLI works fine and I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe not top of the line, but still the fastest system I've ever owned. Just the stock drivers suck, and I'm still OCDing over trying to find the best alternative. ;)

    Hi rcokely,
SLI does work on the m9750. Stone and I can prove it. Also, when it does work, it works well. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend restoring the computer and loading the 174.16 driver. Driver cleaner doesn't seem to always work, so it takes a clean restore to get all the fragments of the driver out.

@GabeZ - When SLi WORKS, it is great. However, it is now 3 weeks and I haven't had my system been able to run with stable SLi drivers. I think it is a hardware error as I can't really send the laptop back right now because I have it with me at camp but I'm going to call up the roswell crew when I get back home.

    Gabe,
I am currently running the 174.16 driver and it does not work. I have in fact done exactly what you have said. Here is my post that Alienware won't allow on their boards:

After reading all sorts of forums, I have come to the conclusion that Alienware knows about this issue and I am not the only person that is experiencing this problem.

    Hi rcokely,
Does it seem like all games crash after about 5-15 minutes of play?? If so, you probably have a bad video card.

    Gabe

P.S. - This is with SLI enabled. It will always work fine in single mode.

No. Team Fortress 2 crashes *everytime* when I first spawn into the game. On occassion I can alt+tab to the desktop and the "This device has stopped responding but recovered" message comes up and I can then alt+tab back into the game and play without problem. In Bioshock it crashes on load and never recovers.

The random crashes occur anywhere between 1 minute of play and 4 or 5 hours and only happen in Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft.

    Hi rcokely,
It still sounds like a video card issue. It may even be the bridge between the two cards. A video card replacement would probably cure all of that.

I mean I appreciate the response, but if it is a hardware issue why are so many people having the problem? If you visit the Alienware Tech Support Boards there are easily 20-30 topics regarding the exact same issue that I am having. All of the topics that have been responded to by technical support say "We're working on a fix for this" but those date back to as far as September 2007!

I honestly wish it was a hardware issue because that is easily solvable by replacement, but my fear is that its a driver issue that would only be fixed by Alienware releasing drivers that actually work on Windows Vista.

    Hi rcokely,
I haven't been to the official forums in a while, but I do know that replacing the video cards resolved my issue. The default Alienware drivers will always produce the error that you're describing. It wasn't until I used the 174.16 set from laptopvideo2go, and also replaced the video cards, that the issue cleared up.

    Gabe,
Thanks for your help, I will call them tonight to see if I can get a replacement. Last night they wanted me to reinstall Vista (which I did even though it makes no sense) so tonight I hope they don't tell me to do the same thing.

Just to add my two cents to the OPs question:
Had my m9750 for roughly 3weeks and I find it amazing! Threw vista on it to check the DX10 eye candy etc, it simply eats away at everything I throw at it (except Crysis ofc)hehe. Mass Effect, max detail, native ress, runs fluently without stuttering. And what others have written, getting the right drivers and settings for your particular machine can be quite frustrating, but the payoff is awesome.
Due to me being a WoW freak, its what I primarily use this machine for (gaming wise), it serves me beyond well.
Need some benchmarks, 3d, Apps etc post your request and I will try to fullfill them.
    GL with your descision

SLi is not very stable on notebooks. It's not only Alienwares but a lot of other brands as well. Mostly due to the drivers, and lack of support from Nvidia. Only recently has Nvidia started to release more beta drivers for mobile cards. Have you checked out Stone's SLi guide yet? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=202449

I also have encountered problems with SLI with some games but I have never had crashes- just flickering. FSX is the only game that I use now that runs flawlessly with SLI. I really think that the SLI problem is driver and/or OS related. I doubt that it is a hardware issue with the graphics cards so I don't fault AW for this. Maybe nVidia should be held accountable for not providing updated dirvers that can handle SLI effectiviely with most games.
