hello people. i recently bought an area-51 m17x from a colleague who had to leave the country. all i got from him was the lappy, a/c power supply and 3 CDs (vista system recovery, vista support CD v1.0 and the nero 7 essential software). there is no way of contacting him so i'm on my own. i've tried to get into My Hive but it asks for an account number and account e-mail or zip code... and obviously there is no way for me to fill out those fields.

i was wondering... is there any other way i can get access to My Hive?

You're not the original owner, so no, you can't access the myhive for the system. Not to mention any remaining warranty on it is now void.

Well, what is it that you're looking for? Someone here can probably find drivers for whatever you're looking for.

MyHive is Alienware's Driver updates pages. Dell has its own pages, so the M17x drivers are all available there. Anyone with an older system (M17, m15x, or Area-51 m17x) will still have to get theirs from MyHive. MyHive was never really kept that up to date anyways so you're not missing anything.

my m17x keyboard won't light up. i don't know if the previous owner just erased his personal data, reinstalled vista or did a fresh install. i read the different threads (i tried to read all but i figured i'd just ask) and one of them pointed to the device driver sequence. i'm gonna try it out but i'm just missing the lighted keyboard driver (patch... whatever). the rest of the drivers are all available here (kudos everyone) except the one for the keyboard.

The only way I can think of is to take the keyboard off and look for the LED's. Here are all the m17x HOWTO Guides including how to remove the keyboard:
    m17x HOWTO Guides

If it has the AlienFX Ribbon Cable, then it's supposed to light up. If it doesn't have the AlienFX Ribbon Cable, then its the non-illuminted version.

Some people ordered w/o the lighted keyboard because they were out of stock and it would've delayed the order.
