I hav a problem with alien FX. reasantly i had to reboot my laptop which requried me to reinstall vista and command center and now the quick touch controls and the track pad wont let me do anything with them besides change colour and when i turn off FX they just stay does anyone no how to solve this or are they having the same problem.
-
which bios version are you using?
-
x32 for system bios
-
You need to reinstall OSD and Command Center
1) Uninstall Command Center and OnScreenDisplay Utility
2) Download and install this Ripley Model Patch from My Hive
3) Install OSD Utility & reboot
4) Install Command Center -
nope that did not work and now osd utility stops working when ever it is launched as well as still having the same problem as before
-
Have you installed the touchpad and touch control drivers?
-
i have installed the synaptic touchpad drivers that were on my cd
-
And what about the touch control drivers (for the touch panel)?
-
-
that wont fix it. this is wmi problem if osd is crashing after a pop up in systray about the graphics card
is thats the case? -
no i dont get a pop up in the systray i also cant turn of the track pad by the fn + f12 button
-
i suppose if you dont have too much stuff installed u can restore
-
-
restoring my pc is what caused this problem and i dont think that wil help
-
Ok.... I have a quick fix for you.. again
Replace C:\Program Files\Keyboard Manager\OSD Utility\OSDManager.exe with the file I uploaded for you here...
http://rapidshare.com/files/155329206/OSDManager.rar -
-
i replaced the osdmanager.exe and it still stops working and i used a clean OS install
-
now thats really strange... wish I could take control of your machine and somehow debug it. anyways... do you see osdmanager.exe running in your taskmgr ? what version of vista are you on ?
-
TeamViewer http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx is a free VNC that will allow you to do that. Does not require a install either. -
ok sorry for taking so long to get back i hav re-installed OSD utillity and that is working now i hav also updated the command centre however i am still geting the same problem and when i go to the alienwarealienfx tester in the command folder i get to the test green leds and then it says 'there seems to be a problem with alienfx board any idea
-
So what is the current issue, sorry I could not make sense out of it. Does it happen just with the green LEDs?
-
i can still change my lights to green through alienfx. Its just when i use alienfx tester it will get to the green led test and give the error that i said in my last post. The main problem is still that i cant turn off the touch controls and the light around the touch pad i just though this new problem that i hav found may be linked
-
Ok I might have found a resolution, and this may be with everyone as I also noticed this problem... and yet fixed it as well.
Run the AlienwareAlienFXTester.exe and tell me the board version that you have. Are you running on 1.0.0.35? -
Confirmed that is another problem that you have with the latest BIOS update for AlienFX Board. The new version that came with latest command center is 1.0.0.35 which is problematic. I downgraded to 1.0.0.22 and the problem was fixed. There is no direct way to downgrade if you have updated to 1.0.0.35 since even installing older version down not help.
But I have a way to do this, you need not to uninstall the latest version of command center just keep it installed.
1) Rename C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\FW3410_00010035.ROM to .TXT
2) Download the old firmware from Here
3) Place it to C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\FW3410_00010022.ROM
4) Open up command prompt and change directory to "C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\"
5) Type "AlienwareAlienFXTester.exe /factory"
6) This will downgrade your AlienFX firmware to the old version, and now the problem should be resolved.
