hey everyone. im looking to buy an alienware aurora m7700. im going to use it as a desktop replacement. im going to be doing gaming, web design, and school work on it. can i get some thoughts on what to upgrade? im looking at getting a geforce go 7950 gtx video card, upgrade the RAM to 2gb, possibly 4gb, and then upgrading the hard drive to the biggest size i can get. do you guys have any opinions on which brands i should go with? here are the specs:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
    System Memory (RAM): 1GB DDR
Hard Drives: 120 GB 5400RPM Primary
CD Drive: 24X DVD RW Burner
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX 256 MB
    Screen Size: 17" Across Widescreen
    Wireless Network: Card included
Wired Network: Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Audio: Realtek ALC850 @ VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller
    USB Slots: 4
    Color: Blue

any comments are greatly appreciated. if i could get links on where to buy these parts, that would be awesome. i know the graphics card is really hard to find and expensive, so im not expecting many links on where to buy them. THANKS!

the m7700 is old. spend the money on something up-to-date.

as for the poll, way to leave out AW's best laptop right now, the m17.

    ^^ agreed.

the M7700a (Clevo D900K) is quite old, its still very capable in gaming, but for ~$800 you can get a midrange notebook (with Nvidia 9600M GT) that would perform near the same.

If you were talking about a current Clevo (which has a dozen videocard options and upgrades), then it would be worth it.

fill out the FAQ if you want suggestions for a gaming notebook.

depending on how much you want to spend, if it's less than 1 grand, don't buy an old alienware. there are newer computers you can get for under a grand that will outperform those older models. the m17 is probably your best bet from alienware right now

    seriously, dont buy it.
I have the D900K aka M7700a, and it has been quite a nightmare.
Sure it has a lot of power on the cpu end, but it is a very large laptop, and to be honest it has not been very reliable.

The system also has a maximum of 2Gb of Pc3200 memory, so your dream of 4gb is not happening.

Can't vote until that is up there...

Wait a minute, does Alienware even sell the m7700 anymore?!
