I swear I have never noticed this before when I ran 3DMark. Guess you're just that awesome.
-
I might just be that he's using the PROFESSIONAL version of 3dmark and not the shareware version. FYI
-
What res did you run 3dmark at?
-

they are meant to be overclocked at your own risk not the sellers risk.
put yourself in a business situation you are the shop owner then u get punks like me come into our shop buy a cpu overclock the living day light out of it at every opportunity wreck it then go back to your shop every 2nd to get another just because i burnt out the old cpu due to overclocking over the limit.
how would u feel? are you going to make profit like that? multiply that by 1000 customers then u'll be out of business because no supplier will sell to you and you are going to have 1000 angry customers waiting for their new cpu. -
So I'm guessing your BIOS flash went well eh?
But did Vista ask you to reactivate your copy or is it still safe? -
All I'll say is that Dell supports overclocking on their M1730. I believe they keep they warranty intact and let you overclock to 3.4Ghz from 2.8Ghz which is awesome
.

Good point.. you can never be too careful. It's a sound business decision for a company to protect their assets. Such as OCZ, making a BIOS that limits how far you can clock the Extreme CPUs. So, why then would this shop owner sell the Extreme CPU with an *unlocked* multiplier, and put it in a system that is well capable of handling the processor based on it being a selling point per the original manufacturer. However, this shop owner says.. "ya know, I think it would be better for us to prohibit this person from using his computer to the fullest, proven safe extent". It's like selling someone charcoal, and a grill, and steaks, and beer, and soda, and silverware, and napkins, and even letting them use your parking lot to throw a cookout.. but, no lighter fluid is sold here. And yeah, no matches either. We wouldn't want you to burn yourself. Doesn't make any sense.
No offense, but I hope that if/when you have children you don't make them wear rubber helmets just in case they slip and fall. Wouldn't wanna see 'em crack their head on the ground because they weren't safely protected. -
Whos hungry...lol, maybe we could start a oc post?
j/k -
Yea this thread has gotten a bit off topic... Chaz will be here soon to clean it up anyways most likely or it will just die.

Right that's like having a supra(whitebook) from toyota(ocz) and having all the side dealers(rkcomputers, xoticpc, etc,) have high performance parts(extreme cpu) and you can do stuff to it to get more horsepower(overclock to get more ghz) meanwhile the expensive big known name brand dealer(alienware) tells you if you replace the intake to get more Horsepower(ghz) it will void your warranty.
Lol.
but lets not get to much off topic. lol
Jellybeans i'll will tell you to wait some more days to see if you see any updates for your machine. 3 days is not enough to judge a laptop.(i think it is now 4)(like a book that i dont read. lol)
edit: Also i think i said this already but do a clean install and updates from other websites. and tell us your perfomance gain. -
Already beat ya too that..

Hey JellyBean, just for giggles maybe mark your vid cards with a sharpie somewhere and let us know where...kinda like a tracking number so to speak...
See if any of us end up with them here
...just a thought. Still holding out on my unit, at least till the 8th of the month as this is my expected delivery date. I have been reassured 3 times that there is not a problem, even though all the evidence points otherwise. Hopefully I will not have to tell the Emperor that he is wearing no clothes.

Jelly, you still returning? Cause.. On topic is me sayin you shouldn't. Maan.. keep it. If everyone who got the 8800GTX in SLI and the 9800m GTX in sli had sent it back the first month or two..they'd be very upset right now. The drivers are all young, and immature. With a little time, this rig is going to be extremely impressive. Heck, it already is.

The only unlockable multiplier cpu that I know Alienware sold was the T7600G c2d- and they limited the o/c to 2.66ghz

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Right. I remember those were going in the Dell M1710 too.
-
its being returned decision has be made. its not all about performance its the way it looks and the rubber case
-
I guess it's personal preference.
I still think it's a nice looking notebook, I would say it's probably aligned with the sony 120D that i tested and better all the other ones I tested and owned. But that sony is a 18 incher. -
I guess its to sexy for you
-
um skullcaps are for emos. and the rubber rubs off when u game for a while.

^^ This hits it right on the head basically.
Alienware was synonymous with "High end gaming," but either the industry has caught up, AW is slacking or a combination of both. But they've turned into a cookie cutter company.
The old AW would have been all over any overclocking potential (and a premium to go with it).
They've now regressed to a state of actually LOCKING a laptop which was meant to be overclocked.....tsk tsk. -
lol, that`s some funny
