I looked on alienware for the return policy info but i guess im blind :[

When i get the m15x in and for some crazy reason i figure id rather the m17x, what exactly would i have to do to return and get the m17x?.. or would that just be a waste of extra money?.. This is just a question incase i dont like the m15x as ive heard lots of good things about the m17x.. but still wanted to know the return policy

    In the US, 21days
    In Canada, 30 days.

    Anywhere else, not sure.

Please provide your country of residence if needed.

im in USA.. but if i were to exchange the m15x for the m17x and pay the ammount more that the m17x is worth, would that be an option? Not realy looking to do this, But if the m15x doesnt seem to be enough for my gaming needs then thats what will happen.. also will probably extend the warrenty to 4years since if by them somthing happens to my m15x/m17x and they happen to not have those parts/laptop anymore then ill just have a better replacement witch to me is a smart deal. I saw on this forum that someone had that happen to them.

I think you'll have to physically return the unit first and wait for credit and then order the M17x. They only do swaps for same system configs, at least that is what my tech told me.

Yes, they will probably do an exchange for you; since you wanted to upgrade to m17x (I'm guessing it will be more expensive) and not returning it (has restocking fee if no defects). Just don't open the box when you get it. However, you should know what you are buying/want in the first place is my concern. Anyways, give it a try.

Your restocking fee for a return, will be waived as long as your ordering another DELL/Alienware system, from what I've been told. So go ahead and test out the M15x, just make sure you made up your mind before your 21 days.

Yes that is correct. As long you are ordering another system from them they will not charge you the restocking fee. But like anywhere else, if you keep on returning what you buy and complaining about it, don't expect anything good from it. Who knows what Dell does behind you, maybe they take your return on the phone but built you a poor quality m17x, anything is possible. By the way, I am an owner of m15x and very happy to have it. Some people on this forum return their computers just because a new product is coming out taking for granted what they got now is probably good for whatever they doing.

IF you can connect to any size monitor, WHY would you exchange the machine?
You need a 17" in an airplane, taxi, limo, church? I'm projecting to a 52" Sony Bravia.

IF you needed more raw power, an exchange for more screen wouldn't provide that.

Test, even experiment on, for the first 18 days, YES, I'm in the que for a factory replacement because Command Center fried my mobo and blue-tooth, both replaced but not functioning as purchased, then call on day 19.

Yeah, you know what they say...don't mess with the people who handle your food.
This is the same principle. If it's not broken, don't fix it lol. Cause they can surely spite you with below par parts...you never know!

Maybe i'm just being a cynic...

m17 has nothing to do with screen size... it has to do with duel graphics crossfire... and duel hdd.. but hey if this m15x plays battlefield bad company 2 like the xbox 360 does, them im staying with it.

The policy appears to be 30 days everywhere including the USA & Canada. A number of people have quoted the 21 day policy but none have provided any links or proof.

When I made an RMA for my DOA m17x, it was 21 days according to the rep. Don't assume if its your money, go find out yourself.

I returned my M17x R1 and this is exactly how it works. You just call them up and tell them it doesn't meet your needs. They will email the return labels and you send the system back. From the time they recieve the system it's about 10-14 days tll they put the credit back on your account. Reason being they have to inventory the laptop itself, as well as all the stuff that shipped with it. Just to make sure it's in proper working order. Than you can re order. Also extending the warranty after purchase is expensive, I was quoted $1100+ on my R1 for a 4 year extension with complete care. Talked them down to $900 or so. So it all depends on if you want to save money upfront.

Didn't you get stuck with that 15% restocking fee? Or were you in your 21 day return period?

I was out of my 21 days, I was around day 26-27, after delivery. I was told I was outside of the 21 day return period, but the manager made an exception due to my location. I was also told that it was 21 days from the date of invoice, meaning the day it shipped from the factory, putting me over the 30 day period as well. They didn't ive me any headache about it. I just called up and told them it didn't meet my needs and I had the return labels in my email in about 5 min, before I was even off the phone. Didn't even mention that I was going to order another Dell.

The service was actually so good, that I wrote the manager of the rep I worked with. Obviously due to location and ship times, I didn't get the credit for about 6-7 weeks, but I was in no hurry as I was waiting for 5870's. This was back in late Jan that I shipped it out. Recieved it on 21DEC.

I don't think I will be returning the unit I just ordered as I think I have configured it to fit my needs. But out of curiosity, I just want to clarify what is being discussed here.

If I am still within my first 21 Days(counted as the date of physcially received the laptop), should I choose to return it, I will be refunded all monies from the order but I will be charged a 15% restocking fee? I thought I asked the rep about this when I was ordering, and he said that no restocking fee would be applied.

Not if your in your 21 day period. I'm trying to get a refund based on the fact it didn't meet my needs+Its faulty. And I'm out of my 21/30/60 Day Period.

Just to add some information, in Germany it's 14 days, Austria only 7 days.

It's different in every country. Therefore, call your Dell representative and ask how long your return period is just to be sure.
