Just wondering if anyone has any BIOS editing experience. I can't imagine the option to enable FSB overclocking for other processors besides the 920XM would be a difficult one to enable. Anyone?

I know zfactor made some progress on the R1, don't know if he ever looked at the R2 bios. Being able to raise the TDP limit also will give more head room for the turbo mode multipliers for the 920.

I'm going to start looking into it as well, although starting from a fresh slate as far as BIOS modding isn't saying much, but we'll see. It looks(the option *is* there, just grey'd out) and sounds so simple I'm sure it's going to be a difficult process. It' just fustrating to have the VDIMM Vcore options there .. but then to tease us by greying out the FSB adjustments.

It would of been nice to use setfsb to overclock the 720qm like in the ASUS, but i dont know if it will happen, a bios mod may fix it i was looking into it...but got lost with in it.

I'll try it out, but it appears it's for situations where the user is not able to get into the BIOS period. Since you can get into the BIOS in the M17x, im not sure how helpfull it will be. I'll try it out tomorow however and see what's up. thanks!

    ^ This.

I've decompiled and messed around with and recompiled the BIOS before, and everything looks good with the BIOS file itself. I'd never actually flash it without a means of recovery, though. Was more just experimentation.

iv been playing aroubd with bios mods. They have only just recently been able to mod phoenix bios to insert windows 7 (slic 2.1) that was on my old xps m1710 and worked. They have been making progress but very slow. Phoenix is a work in progress. iv found a new site yesterday bios-mods.com from there they have unlock hidden feature like fsb adjustments on ami-bios.

there is a recovery procedure that is suppose to work on phoenix. Take battery out disconnect mains, remove rom file from bios update extractor place on to usb stick. plug in usb stick and keep finger on end key while powering up (30 secs) and it should recover from flash fails. Suppose to work on all new Dells.

I wont try it because i dont want an expensive paperweight.

what sounds safer and even better is just to decompile it and change the BCLK number for the 5% overclock on the 920's. Then enjoy.

    No limits ahhhhh

Then maybe change the CPU micro-code for the 5% being unlocked to say a 720's micro code and suddenly you have alot of happy people.

That's what I was thinking, instead of messing around, just adding *support* for a 720's CPUID or microcode. Much safer and easier.

Could always try going from A04 to official A03 using the BIOS recovery procedure and see if it does the flash. If it does, you're simply back on stock A03. If it does nothing, well, you know your model doesn't support that recovery procedure.

R1 A03 BIOS. I don't have an R2 so I don't have any BIOS information on it, and don't flash this to an R2!!:

I can't see how it would work. The memory controller is on the processor in the R2, in the R1 it's in the northbridge. That alone should mean a bricked system.

Haha that's why I said *don't* flash that one to an R2.

It may need to be a specific filename, not A03.ROM. The stick may need to be a certain format, too (FAT16 or FAT32).

Ok, this just happened to me so here it goes

    1. A usb thumb Drive is need. It will work.

    2. Bios From dells website.

    3. Extract all the files from the Dell bioes autoexe, make sure to close down winphlash when it tries to run. Dell autoruns this after you extract the files.

    4. look for a zip file called CRISDISK.RAR and extract all the files to your desktop or a folder.

Double click on the WINCRIS file that looks like a floppy diisk

It will autoinstall the ALL the files need to the USB Drive

    5. Remove the battery and disconnect the Power supply.

    6. Place the USB drive into the Esata port (other ports may work)

7 Press and hold FN+B key at the same time and plug in the power. Turn on power and continue to HOLD DOWN the FN+B key until the HDD lights on the alien head illuminate and stay on. At this time the USB drive lights should start to Flash.

    8. In about 5-10 mins your computer should restart. Make sure to go back into BIOS and setup raid and any other settings as they were lost with the BIOS crash.

-Thanks o Z's other writing on Phoniex bios flash that i was able to figure this out.

Found this. it was on main thread forum. axeman's post. Still need a link to a02 bios update please.

Now that would be nice. Maybe somebody could unlock the multipliers (for non-turbo mode and turbo mode) for the 920XM and increase the TDP, too.
