    Hey Everyone,
I just received my first alienware today, and I'm happy to say that it's a very nice computer. However, I had some webcam issues right off the bat. I was getting a black screen when I used it, and it appeared as if the webcam light wasn't even turning on. A quick driver resolved the issue, but the quality of the picture is boardering on horrible. Blue lines float up the webcam picture everytime I use it. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same issues. Any fixes???

    Thanks,
    Gabe

I get faint blue lines when using the cam in low light. They go away when the lighting is good. This is not a big issue with me since I never use the webcam.
If I wanted to seriously record or stream my webcam online, I would spend the hundred bucks and get an decent one.

    Hi,
Thanks loggie. I was in dim light. The blues lines that were floating up were very visible and not so much faint. I'll try tomarrow in better light

    Hi,
Thanks for the input. At least I know that it's normal oporation. I guess I'm a little disappointed in the quality, being that I've seen better. I had an asus gaming laptop prior to this one, and it had excellent webcam quality.

laptop webcams are not supposed to be good
that's why cameras are 7-20 megapixels and webcams are 1.3-2
don't blame everything on alienware, it is the consumer's fault for expecting too much

its not too bad i made this picture with thier software, i have not tested it with video though. 640 x 480 is fine for a webcam imo.

Um I guess you have not played around with other laptop webcams. Resolution has nothing to do with poor image quality. You shoudl still expect a crisp shot at 640x480. Its the lens and its ability to focus and handle poor lighting situations. Go play with a macbook or the newer Asus machines and you'll see what I mean.

No thanks... more megapixels = better quality
if a webcam had 5mp it could display crisp 640x480
    if a webcam has 2mp it could display a semi-crisp 640x480

And I will NEVER use an inferior product like appel makintoch

Inferior when compared to...? I'm sorry to disagree but macs are the best computers for working on the market in my oppinion. And they come with reliable OS. Design and gaming sucks but I think they don't target gaming yet :D.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the support, but I think this particular topic was blown out of proportion. I was just mearly wondering about the lack of quality in this great looking computer. And just for the record, the asus notebook I was talking about also sported a 1.3 megapixel cam, so there's no excuse for all the blue lines that are plaging my webcam picture.
