hey all,
Im trying to return my m15x and get my credit back on my dpa so i can get an m17x do you guys have any advice on how to avoid the restocking fee? I bought the laptop under the epp program. there is nothing wrong with the laptop I just want the sli configuration
-
do you have advanced warranty?
and how long has it been since you bought it? -
I just have the normal warrenty not the advanced one, and monday will make it the 11th day ive had it
-
You are still in 21-day return period. You can return it and get your money back without paying a dime for restocking fee.
-
See DELL's return policy here -
Still the OP doesn't need to make up an excuse for return, there are lots of common problems with M15X and by any means the touchpad issue is the big "fee-waiver" gun here. You paid probably more than 2000USD for a laptop that has crappy touchpad? If you have the GTX 260M, then did you -again- pay 2000USD for a laptop that can't even handle its own GPU? -
I was only providing the "Official" response. Obviously there is a grey area that may or may not waive the fees, but that is up to the individual to work it out. (The touchpad is a great one to go with btw)

Could the reason be that the laptop doesn't do what it was bought do (gaming)?
I am running out of time to return it, and I'd really rather not, but if they are never going to fix this driver garbage on the 17-inch in a month or two I am not going to keep the laptop as a lot of games are next to unplayable. -
from what Ive gathered unless its faulty there is a 15 percent restocking fee

As a reminder to all, fraud is not tolerated here on NBR. NBR has a very strict policy towards this.
Fraud discussion will be removed and infractions issued with possible bans.
Do not discuss. See the forum rules.
Thanks. -
batboy,
do you know if the restocking fee always applies to returns within the 21 day period within the epp program? or if it depends on the rep? -
If you want, because you feel the M17x is better suited for your needs, tell them that the M15x simply doesn't meet your needs. When I had the M17x R1 thats exactly what I told them and they quickly sent the return labels and charged no restocking fee. It's not a lie, or fraud, but rather the truth. It was true for me and probably true for you. Honesty is the best policy.
EDIT: I did my return on day 33 or something like that and the M17x R1 was purchased through EPP. They made an exception for me since I was out in Iraq. And I had it for 33 days, actual invoice date was several weeks before I recieved it. -
You basicly have options. You can call them and tell them you want to replace your M15x and pay the diffrence for M17x. In this case, its most likely that they won't charge you a restocking fee since you are trying to buy "something of a higher value" from them.

i was told by a rep that if i disliked the product and returned it in order to re-order another alienware system the restocking fee could be waived
-
I am amazed by the number of people trying to commit fraud. It's pretty grave... Anyways Dell will usually not charge a restocking fee if you simply tell them the truth.
I do not enjoy this PC and would like to order the M17X instead as the M15X does not offer what I thought I would get.
Can you please process a refund for me and take my order for a M17X.
These words will USUALLY suffice to have no restocking fee but again it's not guaranteed. -
well what I did, was I explained to them that I really wanted the m17x and I needed the num pad and I didnt know the m15x didnt come with one. (really really stupid mistake I know) I must have gotten a really nice rep because he waived the restocking fee and sent me the packing slip.

@OP:
Just try to say you are not satisfied with the laptop - try to talk to several reps - more often than not one will be way more helpful than the other. That was my experience, if you get a nice person on the phone it often works out. -
Closing thread - OP, PM me if you still have questions.
