Please advise me on a good backpack for my M17. I'm posting in this section because I want specifically for the M17 size.
I just bought this one:
http://products.lowepro.com/product/CompuDaypack,1922,16.htm
It's really lovely. One of the best ones I ever saw. I arrived home and went to try it... stupid me >.< it doesn't fit! M17 it's 17.4"! not 17" it doesn't fit by a very few centimetres.
"Notebook Compartment Inner Dimensions:
12.2W X 1.8D X 15.9H in./
31 X 4.5 X 40.5 cm"
M17 dimensions: 15.62" x 11.81" x 1.65" (W x D x H)
"Fits most 17" Notebook Computers" they were right... lol
I feel bad for having such a nice backpack which I can't use.
Any suggestions?

I would check out:
http://www.spireusa.com
They have some really great notebook backpacks and sleeves... They definitely will have something that fits the M17 as well...
Hope this helps! -
Do you need a backpack with plenty of space or just for your M17?
-
really great backpacks those spireusa but....
they use a "boot" to protect the notebook. "Q. What is a Boot and why do I need it? A. The Boot is a padded, removable sleeve that secures your laptop inside the pack. It is essential for full laptop protection and is available in 9 different sizes."and biggest size is "F 15.50 x 11.50 x 2.00 17" Widescreen PC"
which doesn't fit the M17 "15.62" x 11.81" x 1.65" (W x D x H)" by 0.12.
And the only backpack that fits a F boot is the "Metaa" which is too much for my needs and it costs 199$
I'm not going to take the chance of not fitting again.
But really great backpacks
-
I don't see a problem. -
it doesn't fit, the zipper doesn't close... just by a few inches...
-
So it doesn't fit in the specific notebook compartment then, but should fit inside perfectly though... If not, try returning it then.
You could consider the Targus XL. Swissgear Pegasus or Ibex seem pretty good as well, though I can say a D901C cannot fit in the notebook compartment for the Pegasus. -

I know this doesn't have a protective "boot" but its a beauty -
try this swiss gear pack.
i got it for my m15x even though it says for a 17". it has tons of room for all the other accessories and other goodies. -
i bought the AW orion off newegg and saved like 20 bucks
if not that then get the targus XL -
-
the BIG problem with this is that the we cannot trust in the measurements that backpack companies says (if the measurements are very close to the notebook dimensions). you have to try it yourself to see if it really fits
and where I am I can't go to a shop and try it... I really have to buy it in internet.
And it's hard to see nice pics of the interior of the backpacks.
Some targus and swissgear seams to fit, oriion fits too but I need to see the interior :|
omg choosing a backpack for the M17 it's more difficult then choosing what notebook to buy -
very true.
i took my m15x to best buy after i looked at several online.
i have enough room in the bag for the laptop, ac adapter, smart bay unit, mouse, bose headphones in the hard case, cd holer, 3 text books, or a change of clothes and toiletries if not books, ipod, couple folders, chargers for ipod and cell phone, food, pens, couple magazines.
and a few other things (little)....
i like it....but i agree it is difficult without being able to test it out. -

Hm... as for the Spire sleeves, being .3 inches too small in only one dimension shouldn't be a problem.
I have one of their sleeves for my m9750 and I can tell you they do stretch slightly, and their really great sleeves (or boots you can call them).
I guess if you can't find something you like better I would say just order one and try it out. -
I use the Mobile edge Alienware backpack. I got it when Newegg sold them for my m9750. I now have the M17 and it fits perfectly. you can still get it here:
http://www.google.com/products/cata..._catalog_result&resnum=1&ct=result#ps-sellers EDIT: Sorry, I guess this is a bad link.
I've used it all over the world many times for a couple years now and it's still perfect and it has always protected my puter well. It's made of an unusually thick ballistic nylon which is the most durable I've seen. -
Okay, just as a warning:
Be cautious if you buy Targus XL backpack.
I bought one approx. a month ago and it's shoulder strap teared the first morning I was packing it. I got a new one 2 weeks ago and now the zipper is broken. Like, when you close the zipper it still stays open.
All in all, the Targus XL just feels so fragile and low quality. I'm going to return this pos today and ask my money back. No way in hell I'll ever buy any Targus bags, I just don't have time to wrestle with so stupid issues like toy bags.
I know there's someone with good, working Targus backpag - I just didn't get one. -
slappa all the way, fits flawless and is a awesome bag both in material and construction all the way around my first pick over anything else in a backpack its what i use for the ocz
-
hey rob 90% of those links from google take you to the odessy messenger bag and not backpack i know its saposed to but it doesn't .... i look every where for one i wanted one so bad but i settled for the SMALLER orion
very strong though
-
there are currently no sellers for the odessy backpack (discontinued),no other option but to buy the orion model.....
which does fit my m17 perfectly....... -
and it's the best backpack I've ever had. Looks like the Odessy is made of the same durable material though.
EDIT: O.K. you can get it here,
