I'm sorry if this is the wrong section, i couldn't find the x51 thread.

I just got this x51 last week, but i haven't been able to play battlefield 3 at all. On multiplayer the computer completely crashes 1 second right after the game starts. On single player the pc crashes with a black screen. I tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers, restoring the computer to factory defaults with the alien-something application, and finally done a clean windows install with the disc it came with. Guess what, same problem. I'm completely perplexed by this issue, since i'm not sure what's the cause of this. I used the stock drivers that it came with(660 gtx) and the latest ones from the nvidia website.

This is the error i get IF i manage to exit out of the crashed game on multiplayer.

This is very frustrating so any help will be greatly appreciated. I just don't have the time to sit around waiting 2+ hours on the phone with alienware tech support.

All of the other games work fine btw.

Thx for the link, i may give that a try, seems that a lot of people's issue got resolved by overvolting their cards.

Are the clocks of my card what they are supposed to be?

Update, i downclocked the card using msi afterburner and i was able to get 4 seconds of gameplay :D

I searched online and couldn't find any x51 users experiencing this kind of problem. I guess it's time to schedule a time to call dell :(

From your screen shot, the clocks on your GPU appear to be right on the money. Try upping the power usage in either EVGA Precision-X, MSI Afterburner, or even Nvidia Inspector, as some of the links I posted earlier show that severe down-clocking is necessary for stable video output.

I hope your call with Dell goes well, it definitely sucks when you get a shiny new toy and it doesn't work out of the box :(.

Need the sensors tab of that program, those clocks are just stat values, I need the current values to evaluate. Sounds like your gpu might be in the low power state.

My friend was having same issue last week, after trying obervolting, fresh install, new drivers and even a bios refresh, problem was still not solved. Ended up getting a new gpu for him and it was solved straight away.

He was running 570gtx and we changed it to 7970m.

I will suggest calling dell and getting a new gpu.

blaster, the reason you cannot find an X51 thread is because this is Notebook Review Forums. Everything in this Community relates to mobile computing.

I need to direct you to Alienware Desktop Forum as the appropriate place for discussion for your X51 Alienware desktop.

I hope you can find a solution to the issue quickly.
