    hey,

want to buy the m11x as its portable, small, powerfull etc etc but i dont have the knowledge of a techie or someone that takes these things apart.

    1) Medieval 2 total war is a old game i know but i hear it requires some CPU power, will the m11x be able to play that on full spec??

    2) Can the m11x power larger screens? i keep hearing a few people say yes and no. iv got a 19-21 inch (im guessing) monitor that i have spare at the moment as the desktop pc has packed in and wondering if it can power that fine.

    3) on a review someone said -
"- the major flaw I mentioned: the SPACE BAR does NOT register sometimes. After extensive investigation I found that it is the mechanism design of the spacebar that causes it. (if it is only my brand new M11x laptop, then they have serious quality control problems) The mechanism that would make it register as a 'hit' is located on the left hand side. So, if you use your right thumb to press spacebar when you type, 1 out of 10 times it will not register. The spacebar would go in, but the mechanism is too far on the left to be pushed 'far enough' to register as a 'hit'. If you use your left thumb to type and press the spacebar, there is no problem at all (since the mechanism is right below)."

this might not be a huge problem but i would get VERY annoyed after paying quite a bit for it!

    4) i hear the screen is really reflective, does it bother most people? i tried using my brothers laptop (which isnt covered by glass) in spain outside and because of the sun i could not see a thing! not a huge issue as you would expect this from anything.. cant see my PSP outside.. but its good to know before hand.

    5) ok final question i hope..

i live in the UK and i want to buy the upper spec 'SU7300, 4gig RAM, 500gb hard drive' this is £899 with 1 yrs warrenty NO accidental damage cover.
i want the accidental cover so 2 years i will have to get.. but iv heard people phoning up dell with them offering cover for less.

this week theres an option to order now, pay this month next year which suites me because iv already paid for a few holiday this year..

how do i haggle this? order it with one year, then ask to upgrade warrenty which they might haggle EVEN THOUGH i wont be paying them any money untill april next year.. damn im rubbish at haggling..

anyway sorry for the long post but would appreciate the feedback!
    cheers

    1) Not 100% sure but if it can handle most modern games I'm sure it'll be able to handle this one.
2)Yes you'll be fine using it on a 19-22inch screen. I play modern warfare 2 on my 32" samsung tv with full specs and still get 29frames
3)I have have any issues with the spacebar but I do hit the space bar with my left thumb.
4)The screen is gives out a lot of glare outside in the bright sun. For inside lighting it's still somewhat noticeable but if you're used to glass screens you should be fine.
5)there's a good post about ordering advice, it should be on the first page of the forum sorry I'm too lazy to post it.

    Hope this helped.

I was able to reproduce the keyboard thing on my m11x but only when i was pushing the very top right part of the spacebar, all other parts worked fine. If anyone was actually typing and hitting that part of the spacebar then i'd say that they arent typing properly!

    Pezza-
    1. Medieval 2 Total Wars work fine on the m11x. High rez
    2. The nividia 335mgt (do research at nvidia.com) It handles higher resolutions just fine. Please understand that the higher resolution, the lower the fps.
    3. I have not experienced an issue with space bar. The keyboard is a little smaller than standard, so it is better for smaller handed folks.
    4. Screen is outstanding for such a small laptop. It is a little reflective outside but inside it is fine.
    5. I have no idea on this one.. sorry.

    Best Wishes, Stevenx

great info guys, most likely the spacebar was just a faulty unit and not a production issue.

il try and haggle tomorrow if the call centres are open on sundays.

one last question, i want the 500gb hard drive, but some people are saying that theres a 250gb one thats faster.. can you really notice the speed difference? im just using it what its made for as a portable laptop so i can squeeze as much stuff into it while im on holiday. so this more speed but lower GB doesnt really affect me right?

    cheers

well you should be able to get the 7200rpm 500gb drive as an option if not you can always buy it later. In terms of performance you will notice that things load faster with the 7200rpm as supposed to the 5400rpm drive. If you want lightning fast response though I'd suggest go for the SSD drive.

Dell sales department are open today. There are quite a few reports on here if people in the US getting discounts by haggling but I've not seen anyone from UK get a discount so if you have some success please post it. I will probably be ordering my M11X at the end of this week.

I would also be interested to see what that waiting time is in UK for an M11X.

Also I would totally get the 256gb SSD. Makes a massive difference in everyday usage as everything loads up quicker.

    http://www.johnlewis.com/230882208/Product.aspx

£899 for the spec you're after with an extra year's warranty included.

    Or, click this link;

    http://www.dell-sci.co.uk/sci/index.html

    Click on 'Laptops'

Scroll down to the E-Value code box (near the bottom).

Type 305 in the first box and n00w1104 in the second.

This will give you the current 'ESL Pro Series' spec with EPP discount (comes out at £767 at checkout with free delivery).

I'd skip on the Core2 Duo CPU though, not much different to the standard model and it's £40 more.

i've bought the john lewis specced one just today from them. should be at the collection in wednesday. it appears to have the spec as the stock core 2 duo setup, but has the su4100 processor. i don't mind this - i haggled a free external dvd writer after i pointed this price difference out. but also i'm secretly hoping they've made a mistake and called the su7300 the su4100 :p

i think the core 2 duo has a better looking sticker, that's all.

the reason i went to john lewis is because i've had a torrid time with people trying to deliver things to me at this address - everything i order ends up at somebody else's house a mile away. wasn't taking that chance, even if it cost a little bit more.

My M11x's space bar is fine. Most notebook space bars I've seen are like that. They have a bar that ensures that the entire thing moves down at once no matter where you press.

Also, the manual says to only use one display output at a time.

ok so i tried to haggle.. i was mainly using online chat because when ever i call a service center the head sets they wear are never clear and always quiet so i think i annoy them by keep asking to repeat themselves.

anyway, first person i talked to i said 'look im interested in ordering the m11x now and a laptop next month (lie) as a desktop replacement, obviously this is going to cost me quite a bit. is there anything you can do to help me out'
and the reply i got was 'No, the internet prices are the best availble currently on offer'
i tried a bit more and i said i was a student (lie) so she directed me to the student website.

talked to second guy and tried to get out of him how he would check im a student.. hehe.. he said he would need my student number, i pick my old college student ID from last year which is useless as iv finished education now. but it doesnt have a student number, just name, tutor and picture.
he then said he would need a student email addy, i made it up that i havent used it since term.. and i only use my personal hotmail address..
i think he must of picked up that i wasn't a student, at least anymore and just said after a long pause.. 'leave it to me, il clear it up my end. just make sure you send the recept number to my email stated at the top and put my name in the "have you been helped by a dell rep" '
so if he helps me il help him. great. got 6% off student discount at my final price.. but that wasnt good enough i also know theres free delivery until april the 21.. next guy i talk denies the free delivery (forgot to ask the guy that gave me student discount). he then asks me for the free delivery link, which i find in google and it does work. i send him the link.. he tells me to wait to verify it.. then he terminates the chat! GRRRR..

i phone up dell, and im connected to an american lady. so i struggle to hear her and to get through her accent (no offence to the americans reading im sure u'll struggle to my southern english accent).. explain to her i know theres a free delivery going on untill the 21st and im also a student..
at least she knows whats going on and straight away gives me the codes and the proper website link to do so! damn i should just seen what else i could of got..

ok so for UK users.. go to the student website of dell, click shop laptops.. it will look exactly the same as the dell website but the address bar is slightly different.
at the bottom of the home page on the left hand side is two discount bar boxes.
    first box write a 5
    second box write n00w1104

that should direct you to the m11x spec build, when you build your spec and view basket it then should say free shipping and 6% off student discount. (same really as satchef1's code)

ok im writing this on quick reply so if this is a really long post sorry!

    and also..

yeah i did know john lewis did the laptop with a 2 year warrenty but i wanted the higher spec proccessor.. now i know a little bit more on what people are saying that theres no difference maybe i should of gone with that but i managed to knock around £50 so doesnt matter to much.

also thanks everyone for the replies. i wanted the 500gb in so after skiing in colorado and theres not much to do in the evening 500gb of crap is gunna keep me entertained!

I make it a point to publicly correct anyone who uses "of" instead of "have" more than once in a single post. I counted at lease three times. Would've, could've, should've. Hope that helps!

    Oh, and enjoy your M11x!

Edit: I wrote "at lease three" and no one corrected me?! You missed a golden opportunity, people! "At *least* three." There.

    @pezza2000

was it £50 you got knoocked off the total amount at John lewis? was this in store?

I was thinking of haggling with them as well. But I would really want more than £50 off.

sorry i didnt make that clear.. i got the discount off dell. i dont think you can haggle with john lewis but you never know!

oh, i'd love more then £50 off but i think the UK branch of dell are just really tight. i didnt post up the whole convo with the first rep i spoke to.. she just wouldn't budge at all. she wouldn't even throw any goodies like laptop bags, a mouse.. *sigh*
the only way you can haggle for UK dell i think it to actualy use legit discount schemes and lie ur way into them!

i'v been quoted to get it on or before the 13 may (ordered yday) brooksie!

i do apologize CZroe! i just write how i speak, you may also notice that i can't spell and miss out lots of apostrophes lol..
but this is all because its all casual and i really cant be bothered to write properly. i think if you can read it.. makes sense.. sort of.. then great!

That shouldn't matter. I thought they were being shipped from China.

Also one of the first people to get an M11X was based in the UK - h0M3bReW3r

How long does it take from order to delivery is the US?
