I want to install windows 7 but am not sure how to access the bios to make my m15x boot from disc. Help.
-
At the Boot Screen quickly hit F12 or F10, this should take you to another menu. Boot from the CD drive. Win7 rocks!
-
thank you I will try this. Yes once I beat some games and finish up some movies I will switch over to Windows 7, just don't wanna move all that data yet. Plus the whole beta thing worries me a bit etc so I will be dual booting for now
-
Don't you know how to dual boot?
The fastest way to install is using MagicDisc to install windows 7 while running in vista, and install to an empty partition.
I have installed this beta 8+ times. -
MagicDisc, eh? think i'll give that a shot, since i haven't got any DVDs lying around.

I honestly don't like Windows 7. I like Vista better.
I know Win7 is supposed to be Vista without all the suck, but IMO, SP1 was basically that anyways. and the new taskbar just pisses me off.
But I guess I start to expect certain things from an OS after nearly 20 years of using them... I mean, heck, I stayed with Windows 2000 right up until I got a 64-bit processor a few years back (circa 2006...) 'cause W2K could do everything XP could do, just faster, but there wasn't a W2K for 64bit.
oh well, Can't make everyone happy, can they? -
they should make windows 7 look and feel exactly like mac os that would solve microsoft's problem.
-
I am running it on my main PC (since my m17 is gone^^) with no problems (since 1 day xD)

I live, breathe, and work in IT and related fields. EVERYONE I KNOW, whether they be Windows junkies from years gone by, or linux gurus, or just plain fanboys, HATES OS X.
I said it, and I havn't met one Power User (or someone more experienced), that doesn't agree that Mac's are like PC's for dummies.
they lack some of the common advanced options, and to get to said advanced options, you have to jump through a convoluted set of hoops... if the option even exists (which it may not)... beyond that, you need to drop to a command line and hope your BSD experience covers enough of whatever AT&T Code Mac didn't butcher to make, whatever it is you're doing work. and even getting to the CLI is a pain... nevermind putting it into SU mode.
don't get me wrong. macs have their place. they have great video editing suites and also have great software for creating audio content. but they lack the diversity and liquidity of a windows environment. this is why many powerusers are staying with windows and/or moving to Linux. Linux: 90% of the functionality of windows, 0% of the copy protection B.S.
the only people I know of that don't like/want to use/already use Linux, are people that either game or need to use some specific app, where no equivilant exists for linux yet.
IMO, People don't buy a system because it's pretty, they buy it because of what they think they can do with it. Most people stick with Windows because it's what they know, and they have no time or care to learn a new OS, others, venture to mac, looking for a nicer/easier experience with most of the same features and less of the hassles. and for the most part, they get it.
Windows does not equal Macs
Windows should never equal Macs. -

Here is how...
Connect USB & launch Command Prompt (cmd.exe) and type in following...
Warning: use at your own risk, if wrong disk selected you will end up loosing all data
> diskpart
> list disk
> select disk 1 (assuming 1 is your USB drive, match the disk size)
> clean
> create partition primary
> select partition 1
> active
> format fs=fat32
> assign
> exit
Now copy the install files from Win7 media....
xcopy W:\win7\*.* /s/e/f T:\
(assuming w:\win7 is your source win7 files & T: is your USB drive)
do let me know if that works for you... -
You just need to have the partition ready and formated, and drive letter set.
Install magicdisc, mount the iso, the Windows7 install pop up, you click.
It's way faster than install from dvd, and you can watch some pr0n while doing that until it requires the reboot at 20% expanding files.
Additionally, you can even install most, if not all, the drivers while in vista. I have been playing around with the installation, it's simple and fast. If you want to know how to install the drivers for win7 in vista, i can go over that with you. -
Use "Daemon Tools" to mount the Win7 iso, then install it on a separate partition Whizzo.
-
got it installed and played with it a bit. Noticed some changes mostly it seems faster and was 64bit. However after shutting down my light system no longer works (even after uninstalling w7)

Is your iso corrupted?
-
-
That's probably the reason why. Can anyone else verify this?

i'm having trouble resizing a harddrive i use for xp.
i dual boot linux and xp, and i figured gparted would be able to partition the hard drive i wanna split up, but it won't let me alter it at all.
it says something like, "windows is managing this device". it's a dynamic hard drive, and i don't run any OS off of it. i just have all of my games and photo's on that drive. my primary drive for xp / linux is shared on an 80 gig hard drive. 13 gig going to linux, and the rest to XP.
i'd rather boot from the hitachi hd i have, instead of creating space on my primary drive.
anyone have any ideas how to do this? -
you might have to run CHKDSK (check disk) before you partition. i had to. make sure you enable both checkboxes in the CHKDSK menu thingy ("repair sectors" as well).
-
-
i know there has to be a way to resize the drive to allocate space for me to be able to put a partition on there.
the hard drive is listed as a dynamic hard drive, and the other is listed as basic, if that means anything to anyone. -
have you tried running CHKDSK as i suggested a bit earlier?
-
-
-
i was easily able to partition my drive with EASEUS after running CHKDSK.
-
@ whizzo, so running CHKDSK should allow me to then resize my drive afterwards? -
i can't make a general statement, but i couldn't partition before CHKDSK, and i could afterwards
-
haha fair enough. i might try that when i get home from work.
come on 4 o clock! 11 more minutes!!! -
Well, any luck Levenly?
