Hello, i don't know if this have already been posted so i'm sorry if it is the case.
Just paid a visit in AW Technical Support Forums and it looks like a new version of ThermoFan have been released (OSD utility). After installing the update, it indeed fixes the 80 degrees bug and its now reporting correctly the CPU temperature. I'm on XP, therefore i can't provide any feedback for Vista users.
The updated file should be in the MyHive as stated by an AW representative, but i could not find it in mine.
So here is the link for those who did not find it too:
linky for update
UPDATE : I tested it a bit and looks like the temp are only reporting correctly in ThermoFan; SpeedFan still showing 80C.

The important point is, does this have any affect on the fans? I can't see how, but Alienware seemed to think it would.

Ah! good find, it would appear that it is indeed version 1.0.0.5....
Nice to know that my extreme CPU is runnnign at a sensible 52' idle ad with the 8800gtx at 44 and 37 (which sounds way too low) mindyou im not complaining if its right -
Just ran the OSD update, and CPU temp on idle is 48C and GPU at 51C(skin) and 45C(internal) which is where it should be.
However, HW Monitor still says 80C for ACPI temps. -
I think what this update does is to take out the display of ACPI temps
there were use to be 4 temperatures displayed
CPU, ACPI, GPU skin and GPU internal
but now only 3
CPU, GPU skin and internal -
So is this supposed to be the long awaited "stop the noisey fans" fix or just an update to the app?

links to this file for my mini hive?(see sig) all forms of vista needed.

Grr they fix one thing then leave something else to irritate us.
On this particular Thermofan, the issue is that the fan for the CPU does'nt do a single thing until gets to 55' then revs upto a nice (annoyingly loud) 5100rpm
id feel happier if it ran just a little bit to reassure me (and keep a nice high 40's temperature.)

Hmm, well I don't think this changed anything. If you open the Log File you will still see the 80C temperature being logged. It's just not displayed in the main Thermo Fan window.
Code:Time CPU_temp CPU_DTS_temp VGASkin_temp VGAInternal_temp Fan_speed Fan2_speed ======================================================================================================= 2008-11-22 19:20:36 55'C 80'C 66'C 66'C 5093 RPM 2580 RPM 2008-11-22 19:20:38 56'C 80'C 66'C 66'C 5120 RPM 2553 RPM 2008-11-22 19:20:40 54'C 80'C 66'C 66'C 5067 RPM 2586 RPM 2008-11-22 19:20:42 52'C 80'C 66'C 66'C 5067 RPM 2580 RPM

there were use to be 4 temperatures displayed
now only 3 are show
thats mean they just hide one of them... -

I was kind of skeptical about this but ah well, at least there is some way to gauge what the CPU temperature really is. In any case, I've already sent the findings back to Roswell and have requested them to fix the X36 BIOS instead (I really wish they could have worked on that in the first place).
It seems like this new Thermo Fan Utility has only masked the issue. I can only wonder if it's showing the right CPU temp. I'm not too sure if I can think of any other program that can gauge the accuracy of the one Thermo Fan is reporting.
Anywho, here are some of the pictures I've sent to them. As you can see, SpeedFan and HWMonitor are still showing 80C, and as crystik had pointed out, even the Thermo Fan logs show it.
-
so how does Thermofan determine which value to show?
-
According to the Thermo Fan log (the last picture), the CPU Temp reported in the log is shown as the CPU DTS Temp in the utility.
-
As I said on another thread they fixed something which wasn't broken
I wish they worked on this 'logically'... no wonder if they say that other programs are not reading it correctly
Ok... now let them fix the bios! -
-
I received an email this morning. This was in regards to findvikas' question (the one seen below) but it also has some relevance to all of you as well.
-
Glad we have Rebeca with us, thanks Oceanus
-
No problem! Glad I could help by being the message carrier!
-
Have you heard anything back from AW yet?
-
Not yet, I'll go ahead and throw them an email regarding the matter.
