    can I upgrade my M17x 260m to 280 sli,

will Dell do the upgrade for me?

or do I have to upgrade myself and void the warranty?

You most likely could if you really wanted to, but you would be better off just getting a second 260M.

Dell will most likely send the card to a technician and they would install the card for you.

Don't see why not, but as Crylo says, you'd be better off getting the 2nd 260.
