What kind of processor do you have in your m17x right now? Let's do a cost/benefit analysis before you spend that kind of cash . . . processor upgrades are usually not worth it.

hmmm...if you were to upgrade to that proc through AW it would be about $525 (based on configurator page)...I see some on eBay for a bit under $400...it would be a noticeable boost though...

well, when it comes to processors and ram, and even hdd's you can save a good chunk of change by procuring those items elsewhere and buying the baseline system from AW...while you're at it why not try to find a good deal on an x9000?

i tried looking for a good deal on the x9000, but the price on that processor is insane $900-1000 bucks. i can buy it if i want but i have to many bills atm.
so im looking for something kind've affordable :)

crazy that it's still so expensive...there's no value in the x9000 for the m15x at that price - I don't believe you can overclock it...so the t9500 seems like the best option

hope you find a good deal!

It's not the same as a retail... it depends on what version of the ES you purchase. Yes, it will run faster than a 9500. You can OC it, if the AW BIOS allows. If not, then flash a BIOS that does ;P

When buying an ES, you need 3 things..
    A reputable seller.
To find the stepping and revision of the CPU.
To understand that it could break at anytime and it doesn't come with a warranty unless provided by seller(not likely).

But, if you get a QS, or do some research on the Retail chip..find the stepping, etc. You can match it to the ES you're looking at. :)

Did some quick research.. this is an ES, which is different than a QS - kinda. The QS is the final version, before going retail/oem. This is the QG4y version, and you want a Q174 version. Found one of those here:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel%AE-Core%1...temQQimsxZ20090129?IMSfp=TL090129121011r12795

ES = Engineering Sample - used for testing, etc. there's a few versions of any CPU that go thru testing before the final release.. your goal is to find the QS which is the final before mass manufacturing.
At least now you know what to search for.. :)

OP: Micro-FCPGA does not mean Socket P.

if it's not socket p, low probability of it working in any AW unit.

ES is more or less (for the most part) the same as the Retail chips... sometimes they're crappier, but not often.

btw - looks like the QS Q174 is a bit more expensive..like $100 - but it's well worth the stability. Dang..makes me think I'm selling my x9100 for way too little. :p

i have np with the machine it runs awesome, when i first got the laptop it use to stay real cool but after updating my gpu drivers it tends to get a little hot but nothing that serious the gpu idles around 66 70'c and the cpu idles at 39 41'c
i guess the new gpu drivers are oc'ed or something.
