to clean the gpu fans and vents you need to remove the keyboard and the cards with the heatsink is very easy the cards have two screws holding it and the fan has a little plug :)

If you are referring to the Dell/Alienware All Powerful M17x (think you are since you mentioned watching the video), you should reference the Service Manual for complete instructions. Keep in mind, if you do not feel comfortable, don’t do it. Just take a can and give the intakes and rear exhausts a good shot of compressed air.

yes is the only way to do it right, if you blow air to the vents it may helps but all the dust is going to stay inside the laptop and that may cause more problems :)

That's exactly what I've just done with my M17x before packing it up. Gonna ship it now. From now on I post on my iPhone lol.

I was surprised how much dust I had on my primary GPU fins when I took out the GTX 280m's for the tech to put in my 4870s

Definitely need to disassemble and properly clean these, not just blast air up through the intakes

Of course using a compressed air blast is not the 'right' or 'best' way to do it but if someone is not a technincally inclined person and is a bit shaken with the prospect of taking apart the laptop, well - its their only choice.

Of course the OP is fully aware of what he feels comfortable with so he can decide.

I do see dust fly out of those vent when I use kompress air can. I think we should use air can regularly and open the laptop up sometimes.

I agree. tech that came by told me that I should too. Especially the middle fan. GPU's are a bit harder because taking out the keyboard etc is a little tricky so I plan on doing that a little less often
