    Has anyone tried to compare the following:

    M15x / M17x
    Toshiba Qosmio Q850
    HP DV7/DV8/Envy (i7 CPUs)
    * I need big screen - my vision is failing
    * I personally prefer very fast Dual Cores vs Quads but so far the current Dual Cores arent fast enough for my need

    In terms of:
    * Performance
    * Quality / Beauty
    * Durability (I guess we cant judge this part until its a year old already?)
    * Support/Service

    With the current M15x BIOS bricking incident, I need a better backup plan for my laptops. My profession/work relies on computer/internet and without it, how else can I earn a living? Plus i do play games (even at my age) also.

    Your inputs are very much appreciated.

    The core i7 has turbo boost, allowing it to function as both a quad AND a fast dual depending on need.

    I don't have an M15x, but my M17x is built like a patio stone. It's big, it's solid, and it feels like I could knock someone out cold with it. Solid as a rock.

    If you're worried about updates, just do a little research on the updates you want before you run them. The newest BIOS update bricked EVERYONE's computer, so it was very apparent if you read up on it before you went and updated.

    As I said I don't have an M15x, but if the M17x is any indication, it should be a solid, durable, brick of a machine that has the power of a small country.

    If you are repurchasing a laptop save yourself some money and don't get a full hi-def screen. I read in more than a few places that the full 1080 res on a 15' screen can make things awfully small and hard to see if you don't have great vision.

    If we are talking about the same Toshiba the question of quality and beauty shouldn't really be a question, that Qosimo is as ugly as sin.

    I totally agree with your opinion on the 15" full HD. I am getting eye strain on my M15x due to it's small fonts! Forcing it to display at lower resolution is injustice.

    I have no issue with weight. I got a nice backpack that can carry both M15x and Qosmio together comfortably.

    I was hoping to SELL my M15x and buy the M17x upon hearing that M17xs will be having i7s.. but I wont be able to sell it now that its BRICKED and will be scratched badly once mobo is fixed.

    Personally, I am very depressed with what DELL had done with the A03 update. Its ruining me financially and could cripple my work.

    Oops! I see some sigs have "Bricked M15x" these days. First when I saw "A03 BIOS bricks my M15x" thread I thought it's was someone's fault when upgrading BIOS. So in short M15x is really bricked with A03? Cannot turn on? Not function at all? Just... dead?

    Oh god! So instead of releasing a new BIOS for M17x to get rid of its issues they released a BIOS for well functioning M15x to make it even worse than the M17x.

    What's wrong with Dell tech dep...

    If they damage it in any capacity, they are responsible to fix it to the same condition it was in. You should get photos with a date stamp on it before they work on it, and if they scratch it absolutely make sure they note that and don't let them leave without giving you a copy of everything annotated. Make sure there is a paper trail to cover your tail

    What? That is ridiculous, which country are you located in? Have you tried searching for the Alienware support number? Shouldn't make any difference seeing as Alienware support is now provided by Dell. Still, might be worth a shot.

    Why dont you guys turn up the DPI? I couldnt imagine running at native rez without doing this the font is too small. Bumping up the DPI makes the text the same size as lower resolutions while keeping the sharp feel of native resolution.
