I would suggest getting the 1 year and if there seems to be problems with it then I would upgrade to the 3 year.
The ram is overpriced. Buy from Newegg.
Wow you can make a nice system for under $2600!!

Since it is 64-bit you could buy 2x4gb ram sticks. :)

As Dwend mentioned, you may upgrade your warranty to a maximum of three years as long as you do it before it expires.

This is what I would order if I really wanted a M17

    Dual 512
Intel Q9100 (Q9300 is just overclocked, same as T9300 vs X9000)
    WXGA Display
    Illuminated Keyboard
Vista Ultimate x64 (ask for both 32bit and 64bit media as well, they might provide you media as well.. in fact they should)
2GB Ram (4Gb crucial kit cost you just $125 Here and you will still have 2x1GB RAM to sell off over ebay for another $50... so 4gb will cost you just $75)

    RAID 0 (500gbx2)
    DVD RW (without light scribe)
    internal wifi..

    Edit...: Will cost you $3,423.00 + S&H
Edit 2: I selected 2year warranty... since you are in US. being in India I would prefer not even a single day warranty since anyways I will not send it back to US :D

since I will need networking or a SOHO, HP does not support networking option or joining the system to domain. HP is not really a good option if you want to get the full power of vista.. and $100 is not that much for it if they can provide you with media as well. I am no fan of blu ray or TV tuner that's personal preferences that you need to decide per your usage. The reason why I havent selected TV tuner is coz you can get it cheaper outside.

even a full blown M17 will not cross 4500 :D.. thts nice!

Honestly man I don't understand AW Ram is WORSE. You don't need quad core either just stick with dual unless you are going to be using App's that take advantage of Quad Core.

stone well i guess your right about the ram but i don't really want to be digging around in my notebook with stuff like ram and stuff that could fail i no its easy to do but you no. and since im in canada im only wasting about 30 bucks buy not getting other ram. also quad core is nice to have since most games coming out are quad supported now. and for the overall factor of saying "suck on my quadcore *enter swear here*" so ya m17 ftw! btw i just canceled my m1730 for the 3rd time haha!

Quad is good for overall system performance, 64bit runs far better on quad then on Dual. Atleast Vista is aware of quad and can take advantage of 4 logical processors than 2... twice the processing power.

ya true also i dont really see the point of getting the qx9300 over the q9100 since aw doesnt aloow oc in anyway so your pretty much paying 400 bucks for 2.6 ghtz which is not much since there other specs r exactly the same

Even though I don't agree with a few things that you do I am glad you are smart enough to not try to fill your budget just because you have it. Good example for future buyers who have that much money. By the way maybe if you can keep the price under $2500 you can buy a $2000 desktop or put the money towards something else like paying off some bills.

sweet config mate. i guess you'll be the first NBR member to get it then, eh?

i daresay you'll provide us with benchmarks etc when you get it.

until then, happy waiting, and don't get nervous if the phase page jumps around at random, it's known to do that. just give AW a ring and ask, they'll give you a detailed status update. you can also PM AW-James or -Armando for updates.

To me, I always change resolution down when I play game competitively. But higher resolution is better for my work. Too bad they don't offer 1650 resol for 100$

And yes, I am trying to save every $ I can with this purchase. I am still thinking if I should take the light out of this order. And yes, I do not feel shame about myself for buying the same laptop as jellybeans by less than 1/2 of the price.

Update: the final price I paid for this is C2148.61 after discussing AW rep regarding exchange rate change, they are so nice.

    No problem

the point is that it doesn't matter to me if the SLI version is worse than 8800m gtx sli, because the fact is that it is at least better than anything else in the price range that I order it.
    IN canada that is.

First off yes I stole this title from OB. Anyway earlier today i placed an order for an m17. I got a pretty high end configuration including a quad core q9100, raid 0 hdds, crossfirex graphics ect... So i placed my order over the phone the rep was kind and we discussed what i wanted in the laptop. After going through the customization I gave him my cc number and it was ordered!
