I'm not that good with these kinds of things. But I would want to connect my m17x to a t.v with cables. I see vga and hdmi ports on the laptop so, what would be the best cable that would give out good quality for video and sound?

HDMI will be your best bet and easiest.

Now depending on how old your TV is the HDMI may not support sound, chances are you will be fine. All you need to do is connect the HDMI to your laptop and your TV, set the input and done. Just be careful as some plasma (if you have one) can cause a burn in on any still image if left on there for a very long time.

Any other questions let me know :)

The plasma problem isn't worth noting unless the plasma TV is over 5 years old.

HDMI cables from monoprice.com are the best for price/quality. :)

Do you not have HDMI connection in the back of your TV? there is such a thing as VGA-Component which may or may not be difficult to find (quality) However VGA to composite might be even more difficult to find.

I highly doubt you can find HDMI to Composite but i could be wrong.

VGA will give you a Good Analog Signal (Good picture similar to that of a monitor)

HDMI will give you the best Digital Picture (Similar to DVI on a Monitor or Bluray on a TV)

Component will give you an HD signal that is Analog (similar to VGA)

Composite will give you very basic Picture quality only cable worse would be Coaxial.

A PC displayed on Anything other than VGA or HDMI/DVI will look off and probably give you poor quality (therefore should be avoided).

The best thing would be to let us know what TV Make/Model you are planning on hooking this up to.

I read through this thread 2 times & did not see anything about what type of TV you are wanting to connect it to. Since you are mentioning HDMI/VGA to composite converters, this might be an issue of trying to feed a watermelon (m17x resolution) through a straw (what the TV can handle).

If you could provide us with the brand & model number of the TV we can tell you the best option available for your situation.

Judas direct cables are unlikely to work for a simple reason they require that the machine outputting the signal supports composite/vga through the hdmi port. The device I would recommend if you need the output as composite or s-video is a kworld pc to tv box. It takes power from a spare USB port and takes a VGA signal and converts it to composite and S-Video. I've got one of these for my m11x when I need to plug that into an old TV and it works great!
