hey guys, I'm planning to buy a gaming notebook and the m15x interest me because its a more portable gamingntoebook. But I was just wondering why the benchmarks or fps for crysis was so low for a notebook with the latest technology?

Read some reviews and threads and running crysis at high settings barely gets you a consistant 20 fps( don't know if this is with shadows and AA, and at very high settings is really unplayable.

Anyone know why the performance isn't as what everyone expected? And you think new crivers will fix this problem?

And also, do you know if the 20 fps was with AA and shadowing and if it was with the 1440 resolution or lower?

"crysis fps and benchmarks on M15x "

Not good. LOL. even on medium i was getting as low as 20fps. i think its best to wait for new drivers or untill the console version is released. since the only reason i want to play crysis is the graphics im not even going to bother on medium/low. i wasted 60 bucks on the LE of the game.

don't let crysis alone deter you... most other games can play at max max settings.

for crysis, i play w/ patch 1.2, 1440x900 and cuban's ccc pack and the game looks dang good to me. i'd say i avg 26 fps. after reading the nbr forums it sounds like custom setting are the best way to 'optimize' the visuals.

i've never seen crysis on another computer, so i dont know what all 'very high' looks like. maybe ignorace is bliss... oh well.

Actually all very high with decent FPS I don't think it was seen even by the developers of the game at max res :D.

really? it works pretty good for me. in real heavy sections i do get dips to 15 fps, but not very often.

also, i'm personally not a fps fanatic... to me mid 20s is perfectly acceptable and anything above 30 is great. considering that most movies play at around 30 fps, 120 vs 60 vs 40 doesn't mean too much to me.

yeah but at some points the game is at 17-20 fps which imo is almost not worth dealing with when i could play a game like TF2 and get 120 fps. crysis is the mostly poorly optimized game ever released.

So the issue primarly is because of the drivers?

    1. Which drivers are you talking about? Isn't there drivers at that laptop2go webpage? Or does it have to come from Alienware?

    2. When do you think the drivers be released?

    3. How much improvement can we see in terms of fps with crysis?

    4. Is this driver also an issue with other gaming notebooks? Saw the review on the sager 9262 (single 8800gtx) and it scored identical with the M15x, with 20ish -22 fps

    5. Why is the dell 1730 getting 34 fps with high settings and 23 fps with very high settings? Sli 8800's make that much of a difference? where the hell are they getting the drivers?

    Thanks

@Sir Travis - Currently, the Radeon has a slim chance of getting into our M9750. And you have to realize that the 9800 is going to consume less power than the 8800, which means there could be a good chance of it going into the M15x. The chance of the 9 series going into the M15x vs. ATI in the M9750 is equal.

@Everyone - Stop beating yourselves up because the M15x cannot play crysis. When crysis was developed, it was just given the best graphics possible, but they did nothing to make sure it played well on systems. It is so poorly optimized (i.e all of the mods that have come out). Wait until Farcry 2, hopefully it should be more optimized.

Hey Travis, I don't think that card will work with the m9750's motherboard, but maybe I'm wrong.

why won't the m15x play crysis?

I have the same card and I get 35fps 1680x1050 on the gpu tool.

even with lv2g drivers? it still doesn't work?

I am using 174.31 and they work fine.

dexgo may be onto something though, he has an 8800M-GTX and is using the 174.32 drivers. That is a first.
If anyone wants to be a guinea pig and try them out, let us know how it goes.

I would try for you guys but I don't have an M15x. If anyone wants to try this out you can just go to my SLi guide and download and install the drivers using those directions. If those don't work you can always revert back to AW's drivers.

Wasn`t there an Alienware resolution for that? I remember reading somewhere in the AW forum that a guy said AW was working on that.
    Maybe a new BIOS ?

ok this is from a dell m1730 with same system specification as chaz's one on review:

Comparing this to the m15x scores really doesnt make any sense, whats the reason that causing all this boost on dells or all this crappy results on the m15x ?

Edit: m15x's 3dmark score was 9241.. we talking about almost 2k marks difference=crysis beeing playable or not...

Uh... you do realize that the Dell XPS M1730 has two 8800M GTXs running in SLI, don't you?

SLI was Disabled.. so we talking about results of 1 card...
If you check results of overclocked/sli enable we talking about 15k+

After almost of 6 months of waiting of m17x i hope Dell will use the same cards/drivers/whatever in alienware's (m15x as well)as xps 1730 and solve these underclocking/heat issues, providing the same performance in there laptops.

If they release an underperforming laptop not learning from there mistakes with m15x and with all this marketing strategy keeping customers w8ing all this long i expect lots of pissed customers...(again?!)

Its been 4 months + that alienware has no SLI laptop to compete clevos(december clevos started preorders 8800GTX sli) and as time passing by they lose millions $(maybe not Dell, but AW),same time dell's xps 1730 becoming the fastest laptop on earth.
Is pretty obvious whats going on..crossing fingers that atleast m17x will be able to compete and perform as good as Xps...
