    why does everyone call the wireless card in the m17x the dell 1510

    according to alienware they said it is not the dell 1510 it is a broadcom....i found this to be true when i had the laptop apart.....please someone specify

    I think the 1510 uses a broadcom chip. lol

    Dell just rebrands it (like linksys, etc).

    yes but....the one in the alienware is a true broadcom ...i took it out of the laptop and it is compleatley different then the dell 1510

    So what broadcom chip is it then?

    Still wish it was an Intel 5300......

    I had mentioned this in a thread I started yesterday. I wondered why DELL had offered the 5300 in their XPS and studio laptops but didnt put them in their higher end laps like the M17x.

    No reason to use the 5300 as the chipset isn't Intel anyway (no Centrino stickers :p)

    My guess is that is works just as good (if not better) and was cheaper.

    If you must you can get a 5300 for like $25 on fleabay and put it in...

    IIRC, Intel doesn't make their own wifi chips anyway.

    If you can, take off the metal shielding off an Intel 5xxx card and you'll likely see an Atheros, Broadcom, etc, chip.

    Well I know the 4965 was an Intel chip... All the major wireless players have drivers for OS X that have either been hacked or official except for Intel.
