While playing team fortress I put the settings on highest resolution and aspect ratio of16:9 and got crappy frame rates of 15-23. Is this normal? What settings do you recommend please help. I was hearing people get 100 plus fps so I was just wondering. I am new to computer gaming so you information would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't specify what system you are on, but you should be able to run max resolution on Team Fortress at 100 FPS on any alienware made in the past three years.

If you are on an M15x or M17x, make sure that stealth mode IS NOT on. That seems to be the problem 99% of the time.

Otherwise, is it possible that a lag in your internet connection is causing the hiccups? Have you tried to run HL2 or something else with the source engine (left for dead) in standalone mode?

There is no way you should be getting framerates that low. Something is definitely wrong.

I got the new m15x just got it. I have the i7 820 with 260m ang 6gigs of ram ddr3. Can I ask you in what aspect ratio you play on also. On the top right hand of the keyboard i press the stealth mode button and a icon always comes up and says stealth mode is not supported with this battery. Also have you played fallout 3 or borderlands on your computer.

Regardless of resolution you should be getting better framerates. Are you plugged in to the wall? If you aren't, I think I found your problem.

What are your window's power managment settings at? Balanced?

    What's "high performance battery?"

Because if it's high processor performance, then it will have poor battery performance.

If it's on high performance, and plugged in to the wall, then I'm out of ideas.

Plug it into the wall to play games. Honestly it's not good at gaming unless you have it plugged in. Theres a HUGE difference when it's just running off of battery power.

there should be like a little pop up, everytime you press stealth mode. I was playing tf2 just the other day with no problems at all. Just press it if you have poor frame rate and if it doesn't change the performance in 5 sec than it can be another issues, but i doubt it. you are using 9 cell battery right?

Have you tried with it plugged in? I'll have my tf2 installed soon and will tell you my fps, with this m15x it has all the default hardware so a 240 card not 260, if it's getting good fps on this then you're doing something wrong xD. Whats the command to see all the fps and what not?

In the console, type in cl_showfps 1

If you don't have console enabled, go to options -> Keyboard -> Advanced -> Check off enable developer console.

    or use fraps or xfire

K I'm getting 30-50 fps on my all stock hardware m15x. I turned all the anti aliasing all the settings are on everything is at the highest, I personally dont like too much aa so i'm gonna turn it down to 4x.

edit: make sure your plug is plugged in good and that stealth mode is off and look in task manager if yo9u have any unneeded programs open? If none of these things then try reformating, or installing all the drivers. If none of this works consider returning for a new one.

    edit2: also the resolution is 16:9 1600x900 or w/e

It's the 1600x900 screen I was thinking of getting bigger but then I was like wow, a 15.6 inch screen and it's 1600x900 why would I need any bigger? considering my desktop's monitor is like 22 inch or something and it's 1680x1050

Its working better now. I am getting up to 100 and more fps now. I really didnt do nothing. I was using fraps. I also tried borderlands and Fallout 3 and I was getting around 55-60 fps which is not bad. Thanks for your replies.

Reading through this thread I think the problem was the fact that you were running on battery power. The new M15x will not run the video card and processors at full speed--it is throttled by the firmware. The only way to play games on this machine is to be plugged into the wall, which is just as well since the 6 cell battery lasts about 50 minutes when you aren't playing games or running dvd's.

In any event, I am glad you solved the problem. I play Half Life 2 at full resolution, full AA, high quality textures, etc. and have never had a stutter. This system can more than handle it.
