Anyone tried to flash the m290x to a professional AMD card?

Tried it on an MSi R9-M290X - bricked it completely. But I have a friend with a programmer and was his card, I was just giving it a test run :) Might work on 7970m, or on DELL GPU in general, since not only I tried it on MSi, but 2GB RAM (could be a problem, but I've seen cases where it's not). Of course it is quite likely that you'll brick your DELL GPU as well, so better get a programmer, or find someone with one before attempting anything like this :)

BTW I used DELL M6100 vBIOS.

Well better don't try it in this case...

I need it for CAD work...to increase my performance.

Lol what CAD program are you using? I had a 5870M and it ran Creo and PTC Pro Engineer, Nastran/Patran perfectly.. Also ran ABAQUS FEM properly..

There is no radeon counterpart to m6100. Bricking was to be expected. Also there is no firepro counterpart to 7970m, 8970m or m290x.

8850m found in few notebooks is only radeon that could work as firepro. But i wouldnt try it.

And you think I don't know that? I said - we have a programmer, worth the shot, it's GCN after all. Of course it didn't worked, but if it did, it would've been the best FirePro ever. As for why I even tried - the DreamColor in my friend's 8740w doesn't play nice with Radeons ;) HD6970m is a BIOS flash away from M8900, but they are the same, so no surprises there.

@masterlopezz - I think that it still is quite the performer even in it's current form. Granted there's some more to be gained, but I couldn't make 7970m to be recognized as a FirePro no matter what - vBIOS edit, various drivers and etc...

Typically they are using small hardware differences these days to make them different enough not to be flashable. Nvidia I know use a different bios chip.
