well when i checked the system we found out the second graphic card was broken and ive only had it for 5 days. so im ditching alienware and going to get the dell m1730 laptop. hopefully you guys have better luck with your alienware.
-
giving up that fast? the m17 is upgradable so in the future you can put faster cpu/gpu/ and ram.
-
yeah but i paid for the graphic card and they gave me a broken one im not gonna stay with them
-
nobody knows if the m17's gpu is upgradable yet, thats just rumor spreading, and faster ram is impossible you would need a new motherboard.

Isn't the rest of the laptop nice though? I guess you wouldn't have bought it if you didn't think it was a nice machine.
I'd send it in and get it repaired under warranty. Give it a chance. -
dude don't you gots to pay 15 percent for a refund? the m1730 is a nice machine though
-
i bought it because it was supposed to be a nice machine but my games dont play right on it
-
the m1730 is overpriced garbage... you if want to pay for 3 year old technology for the price of todays technology then go ahead.
Its like buying a 2004 mustang at a 09's price. -
what do you recommend then
-
Games play just fine on the M17. If you got some hardware issues just send it back to fix it. Since either way you need to send it back.
Just make sure you isolate the problem then give them a call. -
they wanted me to open it and do it myself instead of them doing it and i dont trust myself
-
if you didn't like alienware but liked the specs try the OCZ whitebook, toshiba 305-706 is nice, and sager machine is great configure what you need and if want to spend less the 7805u fx gateway just released at Best buy but its not suppose to hit shelfs till Jan 5th. I just bought 2 today $1085 a peice "2.26ghz, 4gig ddr1066, 320gig 7200 hd, 1900*1200 9800gts 1gig" Only thing left out from the m17 that i miss is back lite keyboard and bluetooth.
-
sometimes you just get a dud....that's what warranties are for. If you'e ditching the m17 for an m1730 without even giving them a chance to replace the card you'll never know how it's supposed to work you're gonna totally regret it eventually I think - the m1730 doesn't measure up to the m17 IMO...
That's too bad you got a dud though, I hope you can get things resolved quickly whichever route you take - Good Luck! -
I dont think they would want you to do it, that would void the warrenty.
-
Then just tell them "sorry i dont feel comfortable with this so im gonna send it back to you". Theres always a solution.
Either DIY or send it back, whatever works better for you. -
accident double post
-
Read what i said.
-
Hell if you want you can buy my m17
i got it 3 weeks ago works perfect but I bought 2 gateway for the same price so rma's tomorrow for a return.
-
they were gonna send you a replacement vid card and have you change it out yourself? If that's the maybe you know someone who can help you...you got a geek buddy?
The first time I pulled my vid cards I was a little nervous, but there are plenty of guides to follow...it isn't as onerous as it may seem... -
no they wanted me to take it apart there without the new video card
-
btw the 8800 gtx nvidia is better than an ati 3870 right
-
What you are saying it doesnt make any sense. They wanted you to just remove the gfx ? for what reason ?
Plus as i said, its your choice, if you say no then they cant force you. Just send it back and let them do all the work if you cant do it. -
they didnt even tell me they just wanted me to take out the one graphic card
-
-
so dual on both the 8800 is better
-
-
i know but i dont want to go through with it again and the chance of it not working besides the dell is a little cheaper and still is a very good laptop
-
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8800M-GTX-SLI.6937.0.html
8800GTX on SLI get and average of 12184 3dmarks.
3870 on Crossfire gets 13.000+ (on my system at least)
Its a matter of drivers, and ATI is still working on the 3870's so performance will increase even more. -
well the xps m1730 is basically the same setup as the alienware m17x right?
-
-
i heard 9800 is the same as the 8800
-
-
9800 is pretty much the same as 8800 -
ok good if the dell can run crysis on high im happy and i heard the 9800m was good for crysis

and 174% of the price extra. Seriously dont know why you hate M17 this much, its a really nice laptop.
-
= 2500
Thats with base configuration. -
M1730 is fulgy compared to M17, it's a bit bigger than m17 too.
And it's more expensive than M17, and older than M17.
AW sounds better than Dell.
Yeah, go buy a M1730. -
-
how i built the m1730 is the same as the best m17x with 4 gb memory and its cheaper than the m17 for how i built them
-
The GPU's alone cost half the M17
