this my not get answered i don't know b/c i notice alot of ppl on here use ATI graphics in there alienwares but heres my question

i have a m17x R2 and i noticed in the m18x they had the option of adding dual gtx 460m's in there build and i run gtx 285m's in my build and i was thinking of maybe doing a upgrade but i wanna do some research and get some feedback to see if it can be done.also i just got off the phone with dell and the only answer they could give is it could maybe work but as far as showing it in there system it doesn't give them any info. also i i pulled up some pictures of both cards and they look the same but as far as screw holes i really couldn't tell because the pictures were on a angle kinda so any feedback on this topic would be great

    thanks in advance :)

Physically it will work, I don't know the M17x r2 heatsinks but I guess it'll work or at least you can easily get it fit with some grinding/cutting (worst case scenario), but the screws and holes will be at the correct place.

Whether the r2 recognizes the cards is a different question, I don't know whether anyone tried it so far. I know that the AMD 6970m works in the r2 (single GPU setup, no idea about dual cards...)
I'd say it's trial and error in case nobody tried it so far.

Did Dell really say it may work? Lol, when I called them a couple of times to order a GPU the first 2 or 3 reps told me that a laptop can't get upgraded at all, hahahahaha.

Again, unless the BIOS supports the GPU, its not going to work.

Please check the model specific sub-forums as we have many threads on this.
