ok, this is just pathetic. A couple of months after my warranty runs out, the hinges on my m15x start to fall apart. There are 10mm thick gaps on both sides now. A $4k laptop lasting a year. Pathetic, alienware!

I haven't been around in a while, so I'm not sure how the build process is on the m15x chasis now. Have they improved it?

Someone at alienware is going to get an earful sometime this afternoon. There is no way they would expect me to pay for repairs after shelling out that kind of money. I'm fuming!!!

How about find the parts on eBay? Probably will be cheaper than paying Alienware.

They might not fix it at all. So yeah, it's better to just do the repair yourself by buying the parts off eBay...

Repair it yourself, order parts off ebay or ztronics. that way you can reinforce the hinge yourself making much more better than anything dell would do.

no offense and i agree it shouldn't of happened but why did you only purchase a year warranty ?

Specially on that laptop ? Or better yet why in the first place?

I'm sorry to hear that your hinges broke again. but, don't start repairing it yourself just yet. Alienware UK repaired my hinges for free one month after the 1 year warranty ran out. Give it a try

I know how you feel, I had same issue with my older m15x, I bought its used and dell wouldn't even let me send it in for repair if I paid for it myself. So I ended up doing it myself. But if your the original owner than I guess you have a chance of getting it repaired by them. If you get it repaired by them, I also suggest taking it apart again and reinforce the hinge with some epoxy, that way the hinge won't break again within a few months. Those screw holding things are made of really cheap plastic, real crap. ;)
