I've had a m9750 since feb this year and I love it except for one thing. My graphics drivers keep getting corrupted every few days or if I install anything new or if I close the lid to put the system into sleep mode. I then have to re-install the drivers (following the SLI guide) and things are great for a few days until they get corrupted again. So I have a few days of perfect use (during which time I switch it on and off severeal times withoui any problems) and then I install a game or application or simply close the lid and bam, its messed up again. When the graphics cards get corrupted, I switch the computer on and get a blank screen after the windows logo. I then have to do a hard shutdown and go into safe mode to start the reinstall process again for the graphics drivers.
I am currently using the beta stock drivers from alienware and my system is as follows:
2.33ghz C2D
2 x 200gb, 4 GB RAM, XP Pro.
Anyone getting the same issues? Is there perhaps a service that interfers with the drivers? Maybe something I can disable via msconfig? I have had to disable my windows automatic updates because every time they install something I have to reinstall my graphics drivers. As I said, the system works fine for 3-4 days and then I get a problem and have to go through the reinstall process again to correct it. I havent used non-stock drivers yet but would definately consider it if someone can vouch for a stable set of drivers that one of you have persoanlly used. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using 7950 GTX's in SLI, or 8700's? If you are using 8700's there are plenty of known problems with this card, but I have heard that the 170 series drivers are the best for that card.
-
i'm using 7950 gtx in sli
do people have sli enabled all the time or just when they game? -
I am using the 174.16 driver on my m9750 and it works fine with my 7950gtx cards both in sli and single. I don't use sli much and I never boot up with sli enabled so I don't know if there are any issues there. I strongly recommend you go to LaptopVideo2Go and download a recent driver and the modified INF file (you need the inf file to install the driver). I do not recommend AW drivers although I didn't have any problem with the stock AW driver that came with my laptop.
Try another driver first before you do anything else. -
Hop over to nvidia.com pop in Geforce Go 7950GTX and download the latest ones. (I actually had no problems at all with the stock ones or the ones from nvidia.com
)
-
nVidia does not provide the modified INF file needed to work with mobile graphics cards so those drivers may not install on the m9750-they didn't on mine.
-
For a laptop you cannot use the drivers on nvidia's site 99% of the time.
Have you tried contacting alienware tech support? -
I have installed the 174.16 drivers and my 8700 sli rig seems robust enough and runs cool and fast.
-
can anyone else help with this please? Any info on the sli 7950 gtx cards would be greatly appreciated. At the momment I'm re-installiong them like every 3 days!!
-
I run two 7950s on the 175.16 drivers. No problems what so ever. I have SLI enabled at all times, unless a game does not support it. I don't know what your problem is. Try reinstalling Windows?
-
@Gshemar - Using my SLi guide, upgrade your drivers from the 167.46 beta drivers to either the 174.16 drivers or the 174.76 drivers. Either of those should fix your problem.
-
gshemar- have you followed the recommendations of the people that posted in this thread? Have you installed drivers from Laptopvideotogo.com or are you still running the crappy stock alienware drivers? I had all sorts of problems with my factory drivers until I started using the ones from laptopvideotogo. I am currently running 175.xx series drivers and they work flawlessly.
-
Gshemar, the quickest fix if none of the above work, is to just call tech support and tell them yourself the problem you are having. If worst comes to worst they can connect to your computer remotely and figure out what the problem might possibly be, and if it is something with your graphics cards I'm sure they will either send you a new pair or let you send it back in for repairs.

ok thanks so much for your detailed replies. I have installed the 174.16 drivers and will wait and see if the system is more stable now. will post back in a week. I really appreciate all the help!

Hi again, thought I'd provide an update. Basically I was having stability issues with the alienware stock drivers resulting in me having to re-intall them every 1-2 days. I always followed the sli guide on here but it never helped.
Anyway, first I installed the 174.16 drivers and it solved the stability issue but it had an issue with my ability to play video on all my media players so that was a washout.
Then I tried the 174.74 drivers and I have now been running my system problem free ever sinceThank you so much for all the help and advice on here. It was really appreciated believe me.
Finally my m9750 is the machine I always wanted it to be. It is the most amazing system I have ever used!

here is a screenshot of my desktop now that I have everything set up the way I want:

so thanks again for helping me with my dream machine -

should be in my sig now

hmm Gshemar i think you can Crack the 9k barrier Easily, atleast i could do with the CPU @ 2.2 ghz, check for the latest drivers
-
well.. it's easier to crack the 9k barrier with a 1400x900 screen since it lowers the standard 1280x1024 to something a little less =P
What kind of screen do you have Brainer?
how stable are your m9750 drivers?
