ThrottleStop is one if the hot tools around here for monitoring, and tweaking the CPU's functions.

Throttle stop won't work for the 720M. The only thing for the 720M is SetFSB for overclocking.

Throttlestop won't work becausethe CPU doesn't have unlocked multipliers. I'm benching a 720M right now and throttle stop isn't any good for it. :(

depends on what system you have m17x or m15x and like DR650SE said "SETFSB" is the only option for that unit using the m17x and the bios OC options as well. The m15x does not have any option to OC from factory and "SETFSB" is only compatible on very few systems if your MOBO had the same PLL as the asus i believe. Give us some more info and maybe we can guide you in the right direction

You can always try set FSB, for ~4 bucks I guess its worth a try. Or you could buy an ES processor from ebay and double the power of your i7 720 with a 920XM :p Theres a thread in the M15x section with few recommandations. You could get a 920XM for less than $400 on ebay!

Oh an also, Mr.Pras has this topic in the hardware section about disabling core parking in windows 7, to fix some slugish performances.. You may want to take a look at it!

Using SetFSB on my first ASUS G73JH I got my 720 from stock 1.6 to 1.9Ghz (no turbo, 12X multiplier). That was with the Kingston ram that it came with. Being how it was a sort of a refurb and I ordered a new laptop, I sent it back for a new one and well, should have kept it. The new one has Hyundai ram while still good, does not overclock past 1.75Ghz now.

Either way depending on your ram and how far it can go with its set Timings and whatnot will probably dictate your overclock ability.

Either way. A 920/940 + New ram may be in my future in a year or so.

yeah the ram that comes with the laptop from asus is just a bust and something to use for the meantime. i would try to upgrade it asap and get rid of it even though it seems like 6gb is worthy but if you can't even OC past 2ghz with that ram its just makes not even worth it i would rather get a 4gb set for my 6gb set TBH

nope you can't use throttle for alienware. its better to follow their setfsb that they give you cause you never know. you don't want to kill any parts in your computer cause then you'd have to wait what 3 weeks for your laptop to come back.
