ok the keyoard on the m17 and the m9750 are the same could you swap them ? i know you need a power source but you could run one from a usb . any one seen or done this?

bump come on ...

What I learn there are differnt motherboards. Plus useing a USB. Do you want to worry about wires, how much power and so on. Yes I would agree it would look cool But Frying your system to be cool is uncool.
My suggestion is wait a few years after you save some money and buy a use M17 or M17X and not fry your computer. -
If you know how to reroute power to that 2nd tab on the M17 keyboard, there might be a chance. BUT, even so, the M17 keyboard probably won't physically fit because there is a screw tab on the bottom of the M17 that would interfere with the M9750's motherboard.
-
lol i already own a m17 i was looking for a friend
any way so the only problem is that tab it should be able to be removed and go right in the key and size are the same and its not hard to regulate the volate a usb is only 9v and the keyboard illuminate will use half that but any way surprised no one else has tried this -
Sorry, I meant the tab is on the M17 keyboard, though I'm sure you can cut it off with strong enough scissors...
Once that's removed, it may be a tight fit on the M9750, but it should fit nonetheless. -
...wish i could find one of the keyboards
-
bump.....?
-
was the 9750 one illuminated to start with? if not then it will not work. otherwise they are technically the same chassis
-
draw the power off of usb ... i unno how you would do changeing it but you can get it to fit and power it ...thats what were all here for .... and no it never was illuminated ... kinda why ive been looking a illuminated one from some reseller? lol
-
the issue is the illuminated ones have an extra ribbon to give the keyboard lights power. not really something you can add to the usb. unless you are very skilled with solder. the ribbon is literally paper thin
-
well couldnt you melt the plastic coating and soder wires that way then tape them ... the plastic melts before metal. give a nice long paper thin peice to work with
-
maybe you can. the copper traces are so thin touching them with a iron that just a bit to hot would melt right through them. i have 16 years soldering experience. and i tell ya it would not be easy. maybe better off using a conductive glue or something like that scrape off the plastic and glue the wires on. they sell conductive epoxy type glues. that may be worth a shot or using a trace pen possibly
-
I don't think you want to draw off the USB hub, the power distribution on all the USB plugs on the 9750 are in a series and cutting into one cuts the power to the others.
I have external drives and a external G15 which is lighted and I have to unplug it to use the external USB drives.
Don't go that way it will be a problem. -
well that eliminates that way any other ideas draw power from some where else come on now i know it can be done .....
-
Hmmm you could always try a very thin battery, I have seen pretty thin batteries but wouldnt of though it would last long....
-
They arent compatible BIOS wise, I tried this keyboard in my Clevo D900 series and it wasnt recognized.
Chances are the same would occur on the M9750
The backlight is very simple, its two strips of LED's, total 5V at 247Mah.
The connector is a standard USB connection.
Mr.Moo,
if you want to try it, I have a OCZ Whitebook keyboard in my for sale thread
K-TRON -
so how would i hook this up in the m9750 and ..... i know there is a way to go in bios and get this to be reconized
-
ok so im going to try my keyboard in a m9750 next week to see if bios reconizes it and if it does thinking about hotwireing it
-
-
final prevented me
i should some time soon -
It would be nice to have the iluminated kb in the m9750, but the mobo is diff from the M17 and does not have the port for the AlienFX cable
-
i dont need the port i would power it off USB. the keyboard will fit but were not sure if the Bios will reconize it.
-
did this ever work Moo?
-
never finished.... I thought about it long and hard and the amount of work just didnt justify the gain in my eyes.
I would have to program some way to control it and loose a USB port for power and it just made me face palm and move on... -
It wouldn't be that hard to program a microcontroller to act as an alienFX device, I've been meaning to do this to my M9750 for some time, just waiting on a rainy day when i have nothing to do and the money to burn.
.
But Like was said, You'd have to sacrifice a USB port for power and i believe on the M9750 they have a common source which could potentially affect other devices.
I even contemplated running my own 5V rail via a little voltage regulator circuit from the battery, but still for any kind of communications you would either have to sacrifice a USB port or find unused traces on the board.
Mini-PCIe was a though as i believe the USB isn't in use on that.
Unless of course you would like to run the USB traces to a 2 port hub and then the Physical socket to one port and the alienFX device to the other, that way it would still be usable, I did this on my 'alienFX' Razer Copperhead.
Not to mention the mountings for the keyboard would most likely need some modification, I could be wrong about that as i haven't had a look yet.
tl:dr version - It's doable just time consuming and does anyone know if the pin outs are the same on both keyboards?
