Have you compared this to the m17x... In my opinion, it's not really worth getting the 9750 if you want to play moden games, the 8700 Sli setup has less power than 1 880GTX card. If you just want a nice laptop to use for general stuff then i guess it's ok.

I'd seriously recommend the m17x and not just becasue i've got one.

It's up to you though (",)

if you live the in U.S they offer really good customer service. its just that the customer service in other countries are bad.

The only real difference between the m17x and the 9750 is the direct X 9 vs 10 if you are talking gaming.

I have the 9750 which is a year old. I have no problems or issues with it at all am running it every day 7-8 hours. I do video editing on it and use it as a rendering station.

If they had the m17x out when I purchased the 9750 I would have gotten it instead. Newer chips, tech etc. So my advice would be go for the m17x.

Another real difference is in the performance  . 8800s in SLI will really kill 8700s in SLI. Especially considering 1 8800 can beat the 8700 in SLI

It is obvious that the m17x has a completely different and more powerful chipset than the 9750. No need to go head to head on that, Just that when they were rolling out the m15x and the m17x it they were being marketed as a DX-10 machines. Compared with the DX-9 which the 9750 is.

The one thing I cannot do is upgrade to the dx10 but the m17 can downgrade (if you want) to it. Something which is up to the owners preference. I would love to do DX-10 but have to wait.

The m9750 is an ancient platform (you will never be able to use 4GB ram even with 64bit OS), processor self upgrade range is very limited and 8700SLi is for casual gamers, since even today standards it isn't able to run at Ultra high detail some games.

So, if you got a money tree, and plan to buy only to see how AW laptops are, and for short term use (under 2 Years) them YES. But if you doesn't have a money tree, and you are buying a laptop for a long term use(2 or more years).... hell, no.

So far I love my m9750, but if I were buying right now, I would hold off and wait for the updated version: The OCZ whitebook. there are plenty of resellers out there right now that have this thing on pre-order. It should start shipping as early as mid september.

@Whizzo - Mhm and no one here seems to listen to me when I suggest it either. I mean those specs are VERY solid in my opinion.

I would be very careful in purchasing from Alienware. Some people have had great luck and are very satisfied with their purchase; I am not one of them.

Do some google searches on complaints and/or problems and then make an informed decision.

I think you can get better/faster/more bang for you buck, along with better customer service from other vendors that actually want repeat business.

    good luck
