The m17 is just an overpriced OCZ 840. Regarding xoticpc, you might as well ask someone who actually ordered a notebook from them.

XoticPC delivers their laptops with the standard, glossy finish. AW, on the other hand, includes a matte finish that shows much less fingerprints. might want to consider that.

Can you get a OCZ 840 cost less than $2kCAD with Crossfire GPUs include shipping to Canada and provide free shipping warranty? AW can.

I wish xoticpc would handle Canadian support as well, then I would buy from them.

Honestly I'm getting annoyed when people say that AW's M17 is overpriced. As much as I hate Alienware, the M17 is pretty well priced so I don't understand. On the rating the business thing, I believe Xotic PC has a 9.6 or 9.7 which is very high.

    No difference except:
    AW has matte finish
    AW has alienhead

and AW charges for the 3 year warranty, and also voids your 1 year coverage if you OC or alter the hardware. Xotic doesn't.

And the m17 has the m17x keyboard and the nifty skullcap design.

Why only xoticpc? Come on, RK Computers is cheaper and is just as good. KillerNotebooks can be considered if you have the money

There are some differences to take into consideration:

    Alienware M17:
    -Scratch Resistant Matte Black finish
    -Custom skullcap LCD back cover
-Alienware BIOS (locks the multipliers EVEN for Core 2 Extreme CPUs)
    -Custom Keyboard

    OCZ Force Extreme 840:
    -Standard OCZ Whitebook finish
-BIOS have multipliers unlocked for ES and Core 2 Extreme CPUs.

You sure about that? Kinda defeats the finer purpose of owning a Core 2 Extreme, which is overclocking. Intel targeted the design mainly toward gamers who wish to tweak their CPU clocks, but shoot, if Alienware is locking their CPUs down via BIOS, a pox upon them. :)

Yep Alienware's BIOS is locked tight, but they might unlock it at a later date.

The m17 was the cheapest last time I checked, so I'd go with Alienware, unless you intend to buy a Core 2 Extreme.

but couldn't you load the OCZ's BIOS in the M17 since it has the same internals?

It's possible, though ill advised because

    1) If done unproperly, you get a brick (unless you can replace the BIOS chip) and
    2) Your Windows Vista Key/License will be voided and you'll need a full retail or system builders version of Vista to renew it.
