got mine today looks great & preforms well!!

but none of the colored LEDs in the screen or lid work...

the light pipe, alienware letters and the alienware head on the back of the LCD
all the LEDs in the base work fine.

uninstalled and reinstalled the command center and related progs as told to me by tech support over the phone and that didnt work, then i got diconnected from tech support!

no ive been on hold calling them back for over 45min. while im waiting does anyone have any help to offer on this issue?

does the zones that dont work get picked up by the command center. basically do you see a section for the head, the logo, and the pipe?

if you live in the u.s you should call roswell. you will have to wait until monday though

yes those zones are listed in command center and i can select colors for them and every other zone but they still will not turn on...
just got off the phone with tech support and they remotely connected and couldnt fix it either, they said it was strange that they are listed in command center and not working... they told me to do a factory restore and if that doesnt work, i will need to send it back!!!

    Hi kittana,
Sorry for the issues you're having with the lights. By no means did you buy into a world of misery, pain, or agony. Please file all negative comments in their proper place......the trash can. I'm guessing that the cables that operate the lights came loose. Alienware will probably just reseat them, and everything will be good as new. I wish you the best of luck, and let me know how it turns out.

    Gabe

i'm very sorry to hear this... cuz the only thing that im looking forward to when buying this is basically the lights.... please let us know how it turns out.. and also...
since you just got urs today and it's the most recent shipment, please tell us whether the screen is wobbly or creaks, the keyboard area under the arrow keys flexes, and whether the left side of the keyboard under the speaker bulges out... camera/microphone/speaker quality as well. much appreciate it, i'm thinking of getting a base model of the m15x over the summer...urs may be the closest evidence to whether alienware m15x has improved or remain the same quality.

It's actually possible to reseat the cables yourself to see if it works. This is the guide to reseat the keyboard/keyboard alienfx. Try at the least reseating this cable by itself. There was a guide on here on how to get the rest of the lights to turn off, that shows you how to get to the rest of the cables. It's called like "debling your m15x" or something.

Yeah, but that guide isn't for the weak-of-heart, or inexperienced laptop owners. It involves extensive disassembly, and someone from AW warned that it could be a warranty-voiding procedure.

so i reinstalled windows and just as i suspected it didnt help...
they tell me that after waiting a month (ordered may19th) i have to send it back!! i asked how long this will take and they say 3 weeks!! WTF?

1 month wait to recieve it
    14 hours of ownership
    3 weeks wait again

im going to try reseating the cable and if that doesnt work, im going to return it and ask for a refund!!

thank you to everyone that tried to assist me

Well... it's sad to see another happy costumer! :(
200 point check? Right... How can you possibly miss lights? No wonder they can't spot overheating.

if you live in the u.s remember you have to let them try to fix it before refunding or you get hit with restocking fee. fee is 15%

    EDIT
i still would have to go with my theory that AW does their checks with machines just like dell. dell just plugs the machine in and a computer will run test to verify everything is there and is working. i doubt someone goes and turns your computer on and makes sure everything is working.

Did you try this? I was having same issues. This is what the Roswell Crew to do and it works fine now...

1: Install the latest Microsoft .NET framework (3.0)
2: Run the m15x_ripley_model.exe which you can download off "My Hive" under the Mobile Command Center line item.
3: Reinstall the On-screen software, which can also be downloaded off "My Hive"
4: Install Mobile Command Center 1.0.17m also found in "My Hive"

theres only a few things I can think of that are bad.
    1. cable or board in LCD that controls lights is bad
    2. Maybe the cable just came loose if this is the case there is a help article on alienware.com that tells you how to reseat the cable maybe that would help

Well... there was an user that opened the M15x to re-set all the cables. I don't remember the name or the thread, but if you look for "de-bling" your M15x you will be able to find it.
It's a risky procedure though, and not recommended to people that are not experienced.

In that case, it's better for him to send it in then take the risk. That's very unfortunate. Maybe a tech a walk Kittana though it so that the warranty can remain intact.

Wait, are you talking about what Gabe originally posted or what the person that Gabe is paraphrasing posted?
